| No school system is without its challenges but MCPS is in serious decline and MoCo has been losing ground to NoVa for decades. |
NoVA is D-M-V. MCPS and FCPS are really very, very similar demographically and politically. But MCPS would be an impossible commute--even infrequently--for OP. |
Germantown, which is on the most diverse city list, is also not an incorporated city. I don't think that list differentiates between incorporated and non incorporated cities. |
Sigh - tired of MoCo posters treating click-bait articles as if they are somehow authoritative. |
FCPS demographics: 38.5 percent of FCPS students are White, 25.9 percent are Hispanic/Latinx, 19.6 percent are Asian, 10 percent are Black, 5.5 percent are two or more races, 0.2 are American Indian and 0.1 percent are Native Hawaiian MCPS: 26.9 White, 32.4 Hispanic/Latinx, 21.4 Black, 14.1 Asian, 4.9 two or more races. Both are diverse public school systems, though MCPS has more diversity. However, MCPS boundary area has more private school enrollment than FCPS. |
+100. Stay away from MCPS. It is not a place I'd want to be. |
Would anyone really pick MCPS over another of the region’s diverse suburban school systems because it’s had more white flight? |
I guess if you're really racist that may be an issue but overall MCPS schools just seem strong than FCPS (I graduated from Langley). |
lol.. why do I have the feeling that VA posters would be posting this link if it showed the opposite. So, what "authoritative" link shows FFX county is more diverse? |
Very few people share that opinion, and those who do tend to be like PP, who sail through life always having to believe they are/have the best. |
| VA isn't like MD -- we have city/county separation so the PP thinking Fairfax County isn't diverse because it doesn't have cities listed is just ignorant. Alexandria City is separate from Fairfax County. Fairfax County is its own entity. |
DP- if someone lives in McLean or Vienna, what do they put down as their cities? Silver Spring and Germantown are not cities either but they make the list. When they list the most diverse "cities ", they are talking about incorporate , unincorporated cities/municipalities, places, towns, villages etc... if McLean and Vienna were diverse, they would have made the list |
| So many great things are happening in MCPS these days! Just read the Twitter feed of Kevin Lewis of WJLA. |
McLean and Town of Vienna are included in Fairfax County; Fairfax City uses FCPS schools. Arlington, City of Falls Church, and Alexandria have their own school systems (but parts that have "Alexandria" addresses are FFX not City of Alexandria, just like there are Vienna addresses outside TOV limits). What you write down depends on what you're filling out. Address? Vienna. Tax forms? Fairfax County, since we are outside Town limits. |
