Buying a suit for a teen boy (advice needed)

I was coming here to type exactly this. Their suits are inexpensive and on some boys look really sharp. My son loved his - I'm going to get him a new one this year.

Suits are cheesy on young kids and teens.

Khakis and blazers

They are cheesy if they don’t fit and no one taught them how to tie a tie.

Kids and teens in khakis at blazers at events where everyone else is wearing a suit look ridiculous.

I couldn't disagree more. Where I grew up, the kids in suits were the poor, uncultured kids while the educated, wealthy, cultured kids wear a blazer and khakis. It's classic and timeless and appropriate for almost any situation in the eyes of anyone that matters.

I think of the 80's when I see preppy kids in khakis and a blazer. Blaine, you can put those pleated front khakis away now. It's not timeless or classic.

A suit is over the top.

We thought the same. But then noted all the rich parents put their young boys in really nice suits and elegant dress shoes for dances. Underdressed makes your kid look 5 years younger than polished peers wearing preppy slim cut suits.

Private school kids aren’t going to wear a copy of their school uniform to a dance.

Sometimes a teen has to wear a suit - for his Bar Mitzvah or a younger siblings Bar/Bat Mitzvah. They don't look cheesey they look dashing. OP asked about a suit, if you have a recommendation, make it. If you have nothing helpful to contribute, don't say anything.

Sorry but a well tailored suit that fits properly is never going to be frowned upon. Those kids probably got their bad suits a Merry go Round, they probably did fit and were a heinous fabric.

? and pay for shipping all the way from the UK? What if it doesn't fit? Ridiculous suggestion. I love M&S but not gonna buy online from the US.

Kohl's separates. Well-priced and some of them are 100% wool.

The seething jealousy about private school is gringey. Want you kid to look like a used car salesman? Get him a suit.

Narrow minded view of suits. If you get a cheap poorly tailored one, yes. If you get a decent well tailored one, no.

PP here again.

My 11 year old DS has this suit, https://us.suitsupply.com/en_US/suits/napoli-dark-grey-suit/P5335MI.html?cgid=Suits

The pants aren’t baggy, they don’t drag on the ground, the jacket fits properly, the sleeves don’t cover his hands. He doesn’t look like a used car salesman.

DP. Sorry, but an 11 year old in a suit is just silly.
