| DD will go freshman connection. 1300 SAT (not great test taker due to nerves) and 4.3 GPA. Took rigorous courses. All honors and AP. She’s really disappointed. I think the issue may be competition from kids at her own MCPS HS or maybe that she wanted a business major ends |
Should have said maybe applying for a business major hurt her. |
Why is she disappointed? It isn't like she will be wearing a FC tag. |
We explained that nobody will know the difference and after fall it’s all the same. Her friends made some comments apparently. Kids in our community are ridiculously competitive. DH and I told her we’re proud of her hard work and she should be too. |
I'd be more concerned about the business school at MD. Very hard to matriculate to if not accepted directly into the program. Taking business classes at Shady Grove not ideal either. |
Not sure I agree with that. I read recently that FC students often do better than fall accepted students. It may be that Maryland for fall prioritizes SAT over GPA. My DD has a similar SAT but 4.7 WGPA. I would imagine that she'd do better than the 1350 SAT kid with a 4.0 Weighted. |
| Also PP for my daughter's major (she's a junior) she's applying to a limited enrollment plan. I was looking at the requirements to transfer and they aren't that high. Honestly if she can't get C's in her first 2 years in that major- well she doesn't belong there anyway. |
FWIW my DH is a prof at MD and vastly prefers teaching the FC students over other first-year students. On the whole he says the FC students are more engaged and likely to attend class regularly. Too late now, but I wouldn't even have shared that she was a spring admit since she can and (I assume) will start classes with the rest of them. |
