School requirements re: sexual assault in preschool

Anonymous

OP here. Thank you all (well most of you) for your recommendations.

We called CPS, filed a report.

Visited the pediatrician.

Talked to MY therapist.

Filed a police report

Talked to Safe Shores.

The school HAS NOT reported (CPS checked for us)

We went back and forth a/b the best situation for our child. She loves the school so much, so we decided to ask her to be moved to another classroom. We met with the head of lower school and she was UTTERLY indifferent. I thought she would be in CYA mode, but she literally couldn't care less. When I said this was about my child's safety, she told me to CALM DOWN. We basically rushed out of there, grabbed our kid and now I'm home trying to figure out what to do.

We emailed the school administrators. We're in DC Charter, no schools have mid year openings, not sure what to do.

Are the police investigating the school right now?
Did Safe Shores have any concrete advice about how to protect your child from additional assault?

11:23 here. Did the pediatrician document physical injury? From your post it seems no one was particularly helpful. Is that why you’re not yet sure how to proceed?

I would now talk to a lawyer.

Um, WTF re: school head. Does she think you're lying, or what?

What did the rest of those you consulted say? The pediatrician? How upsetting.

OP, the OSSE ombudsperson can help you with safety transfers. I would also contact your councilmember's constituent service staff to see if they can help. And David Grosso's person, since he's at large and the head of the education committee.

I understand how OP’s daughter wants to stay at the school, but a three year old can’t understand how her safety is at risk at that school.
OP, please find a safer place for your child.

I would also contact the board members of the charter and the DCPCSB.

The next DCPCSB meeting is next Monday evening https://dcpcsb.org/board-meetings-and-public-hearings
I would call them and ask if there is a public comment time on the agenda and ask to be added to it. You could give spoken remarks that don't mention your name or your child's name, and say you'll provide that confidentially. When two kids were almost abducted from a charter https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/after-alleged-attempted-abduction-of-two-brothers-from-a-dc-school-officials-reviews-safety-procedures/2019/10/31/c0d92f90-fbfa-11e9-8190-6be4deb56e01_story.html the only way it made the news was that the mom spoke at a DCPSCB meeting. Like your school, the administration wasn't concerned until then.

Yes. The police are investigating.

Safe Shores said that the school is legally required to move the offender to a different classroom. Since our daughter has named 3 boys, we thought it would be easier for her to be moved to another classroom where she has friends. We also think that being in the same room might be triggering for her.

OP here. No physical injury, but my daughter was really upset by the exam, and she was really sad/withdrawn after the exam.

In the OP, you mentioned there was blood. Any way that you did or could document that would be really helpful. It's hard when it's your/your kid's word against what is probably a denial or confusion from other young children.

I’m shocked they did an exam . I was involved in a similar situation and the pediatrician refused to do an exam because it would have been traumatic. Also the ER refused as well and this was with boys.

OP here. We talked to the police last night and we're following their lead re: documentation, investigations, etc.
