How many sweaters do you own?

Anonymous
Apparently, I have a sweater problem. I have two dresser drawers full, plus more on a closet shelf. We keep our house on the cool side. Plus, knits just fit me better than other tops.

One drawer is cotton or silk sweaters. Quite a few cardigans and shells in there. I honestly don't wear these a ton right now, but most are fairly classic.

One drawer is merino wool, cashmere, or a blend thereof.

In the closet I have the bulky sweaters, sweatshirts, and fleece.

PP, how do you wear the short sleeve ones? I could never wrap my head
around the concept of short sleeve sweater. If it is cold enough for sweater
then it is too cold for short sleeve.

It is kind of like having a swimsuit made of fur.

Agree. It looks ridiculous too.

I have a couple. I wear a long sleeve shirt underneath. Love them.

OMG that looks beyond ridiculous.

Cashmere is the ultimate winter luxury. If I were rich, I’d drape myself in it all winter. I have about 7 cashmere sweaters and maybe 8 wool sweaters. I love the simplicity of a cashmere crewneck and it’s pretty much my winter uniform.

Get rid of the ones with holes and turn up your heating. You sound so cheap.

I am getting rid of most of the wool sweaters. They are lovely but no one really wears wool sweaters anymore and they're just scratchy and heavy. I will be sad as I've had most of them since college and that was 20 years ago!

No one wears wool sweaters?? Not true at all. Most high quality sweaters are wool.

They're just not worn as often. All these crew neck wool sweaters have been replaced with other materials. Polar fleeces have taken over.

There are still gorgeous high quality wool sweaters but they seem to be becoming less and less common. I see people lounging around in their Patagonias whereas 20 years ago it would have been wool sweaters

I have 1 sweater. I'm much more of a blazer girl.

I have many wool and cashmere sweaters but I’ve rarely worn them in the last 3-4 years because I now am now in menopause and often racked with hot flashes. I can’t even look at a wool sweater. Hopefully I can wear them again sometime in the future.

But if you work in a cold office where fleece is too casual, what on earth do you wear? I keep reading here that blazers and pant suits are out?

I don't work in a cold office where fleece is too casual. And I imagine many if not most of us are like this.

This isn't a claim that sweaters are ugly or have no place, but that people aren't wearing the once conventional wool sweaters as much as we used to in the past. They can still be very stylish! Women will always have a place for cashmere and merino, but men do seem to be moving away from sweaters to fleeces in large numbers.

Couple but I never wear them. My job requires uniform and my home is always 80 degrees.
I will stock up when I get a job where I can wear sweaters. I know exactly where to go - thrift stores.
I don't wear them under coats. My coats are so warm that it never gets cold enough to have to put a sweater underneath.

Agree. What a gross person. NP here and I have my house clothes drawer! It’s old favorites that for some reason aren’t fit for the outside. It’s also the opposite of wasteful. And your heat in the winter should require a sweater! If you are heating your home so people don’t have to wear sweaters/socks/slippers you should be ashamed of yourself

I have 8. I keep my closet as pared down as I can while still being functional.

I am impressed with those of you with pared down closets!

I have tons of sweaters, if we're including thin cardigans and thin sweaters in this category (not just chunky wool sweaters). However, sweaters are my go-to work wear, if I'm not wearing a suit or blazer. Also, some of the "sweaters" are thin enough to be worn under blazers/suit jackets so are more like long sleeve t- shirts, in that sense.

I find that sweaters are just warm and easy to wear. Don't have to worry about tucking in, etc.
