haggling on poshmark

I should list a recently purchased $300 dress worn once for $20? New Tory Burch sandals for $20? It’s not a thrift store.

It is not required and as a buyer I personally don’t like it. Gets too personal when all I want is the item I am buying. I do wrap items in tissue paper, make sure presentation is nice, item is spotless and as described. When buying, I always start low. You can filter the sellers items by available listing (and choose “sold) to see what their recent sales are to give you a good sense of whether the seller heavily discounts or whether they stick to their pricing. I sell to unload things that are still very nice but I have no use for them so I am always willing to go lower and price to give room to offer discounts. Others may thrift and resell and need to make a specific amount to either profit or break even so they are less willing to bargain but will still take a few dollars off. I am never offended by a low ball offer. I just counter for what I am willing to sell as my lowest price. No offense is ever taken. I have gotten some amazing buys and I save so much money, I now shop less in stores. You can’t return items, so if it doesn’t fit your only option is to keep or try to resell. So be sure to ask for clothing measurements before you commit if you don’t know brand sizing well. I find PM makes selling super easy and they have a great search engine for buying.

I buy - I don't sell - and I don't care for the gifts or notes, either. I'm looking to pay a fair price for an item of clothing I want to buy, and to get it in the described condition in a reasonable timeframe. That's really it. It's a transaction, not a friendship.

My thing is I generally won't pay as much on Poshmark for something as I would on eBay, because you can't do returns and also you can't review a seller's ratings. So you're taking more of a chance on Poshmark clothes.

Smart and reasonable.

That's what I do, too. It almost always works.

The only time I buy immediately is if it's something I have been looking for and I know is hard to find, and if I really, really want it. That's happened a few times, otherwise I just heart and wait.

I have bought and sold many items on Poshmark. I’ve never wrapped the items I’m selling with pretty packaging and I’ve never included a note, and I’ve only gotten 5 star ratings. I don’t think people care about that stuff as long as the item is in the same condition as it’s described online.

When buying items one thing that bothers me is if the item has a weird smell. I’ve bought several items that smell like bad flowery perfume, and one that smelled like body odor. I washed that item several times and the smell didn’t go away, so I threw it out.

In light of Covid buying used clothing just doesn’t have the same appeal, so I probably won’t be buying anything else on Poshmark in the near future.

I try to use posh mark as much as possible as a buyer. It’s a way to give money directly to individual people who need it instead of corporations like wal mart. I also think it is good for the earth to buy things used as much as you can.

All that being said, lately it’s been sucking. I’m so tired of sellers listing their used wal mart clothes for more than they would cost new. Or stride rite shoes that are clearly very worn out for $35. Are you completely insane? And then when I offer low ball prices, they keep wanting to go round and round and round on negotiations.

It’s exhausting and I’m starting to think it’s easier to just use amazon. Posh mark never really saved me all that much money but I used it anyways to try and support the little guy. Now I’m just getting worn out from the whole thing.

The used Walmart brands is an issue, I agree. I thought Poshmark started as a nicer resale option, hence “posh”.

I sell a lot and buy a little. I really dislike the social aspect and wish buyers could see my star rating- weird that there’s no way to check that.
