Do we know who's running to replace Evans?

“Three current advisory neighborhood commissioners — Patrick Kennedy, John Fanning and Kishan Putta — are seeking to replace Evans, alongside former Obama administration staffer Jordan Grossman, Marine Corps veteran Daniel Hernandez and health care worker Yilin Zhang. They’re building their platforms months in advance of the Democratic primary on June 2.”

JFC - Jack Evans has filed to run again. In both the special election and the regular one.

DC is a banana republic, but with nicer buildings and no stray chickens walking around.

How is that legal? Is there no law on the books regarding candidates running for office after being found guilty of ethics and other violations? If not, we need to remedy that ASAP. This man is a joke and he’s making a mockery of our entire election process.

I’m super excited that our tax dollars are funding a special election for the Ward 2 seat that he vacated just to run again. And even though there are a couple of great candidates for the seat, Evans has the best name recognition, so there are good odds that he wins. The FBI investigation and indictment better hurry up.

Seriously, DC should be up in arms about this. It's clear he doesn't give a rat's ass about the restrictions of his position or the duty that the position requires. I'm not even in his ward and I'm incensed over it. What can we do about this?

PP from Ward 4 here. What he’s doing is permitted. So we do several things:

1) Canvas your butt off for one of his opponents. IMO, Patrick Kennedy is the best candidate, but I’d accept almost anyone over Jack.
2) Give money to Jack’s opponents. I think they’re all accepting public financing, so $50 is the max donation. It’s affordable to give to multiple candidates.
3) Get everyone you know to do #1 and #2.
4) Should Evans get re-elected, lobby the Council to expel him. They didn’t last time, so the option still stands.
5) Keep your fingers crossed that the FBI hurries their investigation and indictments along.

Thanks, I'm copying and pasting this on FB for everyone to see. What an arrogant prick.

This Friday, January 31 is the deadline for campaign finance reports. While candidates can accept your money at any time, it is particularly useful to receive it in the next two days so that they can publicize the success of their fundraising.

Unbelievable. He quits before he can be expelled for corruption and now wants to run again. How very Maret of him to take public resources and then come back and try to do it again.
