Oh wow, I most definitely call BS. Alimony in perpetuity nowadays has to have VERY extenuating circumstances. They were only married 10 years and she gets alimony in perpetuity??? What exactly was the basis for this? I'm dying to hear this. |
+1 What was the case law to support this decision? What state was this in? Where in God's name can you be married for 10 years, then cheat (which is irrelevant, as courts don't care about infidelity) and then get alimony for 20, 30 or even 40 years longer than the couple was married? |
No kids? Did she drop out of college to birth his child? |
Actually the courts do care sometimes - in VA, a cheating party (with proof of adultery) is precluded from receiving spousal support. |
No idea.. he got screwed over. Its part of his military pension so he cannot fight it even though she was only with him the 10 years not 20 he was in. |
Neither one went to college, she got alimony and child support as well. It happens. |
Courts don't care if women cheat. They still get custody and child support/alimony. |
until he or she passes, on top of alimony and child support, which thankfully stopped. California |
The federal retirement system is a different thing than court ordered alimony... when on active duty we saw a lot of divorces happen RIGHT before that magic 10 year number (or right after, when the spouse was basically guaranteed a portion of it for life if the service member/federal employee retired out of the federal system). It happens in the federal system as well - we had a good friend who is a Fed employee go through a divorce (no children) and her husband was at fault- she still had to buy him out of her retirement (get him to sign paperwork to waive his rights to half of her retirement). The system definitely needs to be re-looked! |
| Do a story on all the men who are married to high powered women who earn as much or more as them, but have affairs with subordinates because that's literally the only way they know how to feel like men. |
Pension is not alimony. |
Hasn't this been done already? by your paper exactly: https://www.washingtonian.com/2019/10/16/female-lawyer-dealing-male-scoundrels-dc-divorce-cases-heather-hostetter/ |
Correct but she also alimony for 10 years. |
It is reasonable for a spouse who is older, stayed 20 years and supported the career, etc. But a 10 year marriage, under 30 should not get alimony and pension. Plus his social security later on. |
Exactly, own your decision to exploit your spouse’s labor in their prime career-building years. |
