Both of these pictures are cockatiels. Neither bird is a lovebird.

Thank you very much.

That's the same bird, I just took two photos. The other one is a lovebird for sure, I know what they look like.

From my limited research yesterday I understand that lovebirds cannot be with other birds? On account of aggressiveness and territorial thing or whatever? And that they need to be with other lovebirds to be happy?

Ugh. Ugh. And the idiot doesn't know what they are or even if they are male or female!

We are near Tyson's Corner.

here's the other one.

I'm cracking up because that's not a love bird, it's a parakeet.

I can't believe that no one has posted what I am about to say - tell your husband to get off his ass and figure out what to do with the birds that HE agreed to take.

Ha! True, but I bet he wants them now!

PP who owned cockatiels and parakeets here. If the partaker has a lot of yellow around the nose and break, it's probably younger. How does the cockatiel act? From the picture, it looks a bit under the weather. Could just be the cold weather and the stress of moving, but maybe keep an eye on that and take it to the vet is he doesn't seem very active. Are they caged together or separately?

Looking at the pic again, the parakeet is on the older side (white head, not stripey)

I've never had a bird but I was still like, "OP knows that's a parakeet, right?" WTF OP. Zero lovebirds in your "pair of lovebirds."

That's very clear now since you totally mis identified the "love" birds. (I'm just giving you some good natured ribbing.) Maybe he said he loved birds and wanted to find them a good home. ha!

Who knows. The guy's an idiot so I wouldn't put it past them. No my home is NOT A GOOD HOME. All DH told me last night was "two lovebirds", well now I know it was a crock of crap.

Sorry, maybe I'm distressed for nothing. The thing is that I am not convinced that this is a good way to keep birds or anything living. And I feel like I'm now a party to someone's suffering. What if they are unhappy like this? I hate this. people buying pets like they are stuffed pillows.

Yes, and I agree with you. Take them to the shelter or list them on craigslist or FB marketplace. I really wish you good luck!

I'm researching shelters right now. The bird-specialized ones have a long waiting list for relinguishment. There is one called Ruffled Feathers that will take them but they are in Hanover PA. Why didn't this idiot look into it, why do I have to do it now. Grr.

Maybe see if any schools would be interested in taking them? We had parakeets in preschool and they were really nice

If you're a Fairfax County resident (I think you said near Tysons Corner, OP?) then the Fairfax County Animal Shelter will take them. They're at 4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax and you just need to call 703-830-1100 to schedule a surrender appointment. Good luck!
