I assume the baby will have a different last name (the baby’s Dad’s name). |
| Probably not. |
Sorry OP, I am an idiot today for some reason. I just am having a hard time thinking of any really awful Roberts that would make me avoid a name right now. Maybe after more coffee. |
|
No. I wouldn’t even consider it.
And agree with pp, I would immediately think of the bad person when I met your child. Not a great way to go through life. |
My dad has a different last name then my child will have. My son will take my DHs surname (I took it as well). |

It’s hard to say for sure without knowing the exact name and how recognizable the name really is.
But having said that, no. Don’t do it to your child. Would you want to share he same name as a horrible person? Would you want a name associated with evil? I don’t think so. |
But she is saying in that example their last name IS Bundy. So her kid would be Theodore “Theo” Bundy. |
| Use Robert as the middle name. Or call him by both first & middle names: "John Robert, please tie your shoes." |
|
Is your last name McNamara?
Ehhhhhh. It’s questionable. Especially since you live in the DC area where people are more likely to be aware of who that is. FWIW, I have an extremely confederate name (along the lines of “Savannah Beauregard Bragg”) and although it hasn’t caused me any big problems in life that I’m aware of, and although all of those names are family names and my parents weren’t trying to honor the confederacy.... i did not pass them along to my children and I hope they don’t either. I just don’t love that my name immediately brings to mind treason in defense of slavery

Bob Berdella?
Bobby Joe Long? No one really remembers these creeps unless they lived in the area. I think you’re fine to use Robert. |
OP's last name is Lee? |
| It would have to be someone VERY famous before I would get all wound up in that. Like Adolf Hitler Smith. |
| OP you’re worried about the name Robert??? |
Or Bob Hansen. All fine to use IMO. |
