That said, once the context was clear it made the show much better. Just watched the latest episode and it was awesome. I would encourage people turned off by the first episode or two to give it a chance.

Huh?? If that isn’t the most middle American thing I’ve read today. Seriously?? “Just write better”. Translation... dumb it down for those of us too lazy to research and think and keep an open mind. Unbelievable!!!!

New poster. I love the show. Occasionally, I have trouble following the plot. I do not believe this is racial commentary. For instance

When Angela attacked Cal with a hammer and pulled a talisman out of his head, I was very confused. My husband, who reads spoilers and also read the comics, was able to explain to me the basis of the theory that Cal was Megalopolis/Mastadon/Whatever the hell his name is.

So sometimes I have trouble piecing together the plot. Maybe you can find it in your heart to cut me some slack.

Pp here. Oh yes, there are definite similarities there. But in this country at least we haven't gotten to the place where the police are wearing masks. Watchmen shows a police force that has gone further in its organization as an authoritarian force than what we've seen in the United States at present. For example, police officers in Watchmen deny they are police officers to their neighbors and friends. But that doesn't mean there isn't something similar.

Those of us who have moved out of our mother's basements typically have responsibilities that prevent us from "researching" television shows based on comic books. But you keep flexing that big intellect of yours.

Finale was OK. Not GoT bad, but not what I expected. I disliked how passive Angela was after she had been such a strong character.

Reviving this because Watchmen is free this weekend. I've watched every episode except the last 2.

I get that this show is called Watchmen but I started watching because of the awesome Regina King-led trailer which made me believe the plot would be more based on history than alternative-supernatural reality.

I LOVED Regina King in this tv series and honestly I wish the show was just 'Hooded Justice Revealed: A History of the first Watchmen'. The way they've put it together it reads as a side plot of a major Watchmen drama no one has watched.

Way too many references to things no one has any knowledge of like Veidt, Nixonville, the Minutemen, a world where Vietnam is the 51st state, Dr. Manhattan etc etc.

I even watched the movie for the backstory but the movie made the Watchmen into powerful X-Men beings and the TV show has those very same Watchmen aged with no superpowers.

Its weird. Anyway, favorite characters - Hooded Justice (the original), Sister Night/Regina King, and the Sheriff. Everyone else can gtfo.

It’s clear most of y’all need plots points spoon fed to you. It’s OK to not know everything right away. I find the show brilliant.

*shrug* I don't think I need plot points fed to me. I watched The Walking Dead without reading the comic because it wasn't necessary. I found the Game Of Thrones television series (first 3 seasons) better than the books which I'd previously read cover-to-cover.

The problem is - the TV show reads like Marvel movie #8 when no one saw movies 1-7 before! It'd be like Thor: Ragnarok releasing with no background story.

Aside from all that I LOVED the show plot points dealing with Tulsa and especially the flashbacks. I would take an entire show based only on Regina King, her grandfather and the legacy of the Tulsa Riots / formation of Hooded Justice because it felt realistic and crucial to the plot. But throwing Dr. Manhattan in there for no reason just ruined it for me. He's this all-powerful omnipotent building and spends literally the entire TV series reading a book.

It was ridiculous.

LOVED Watchmen and I generally dislike sci-fi/comic movies. I did not read the novel or watch the movie, but I read the AV club recaps after each episode that gave a lot of the backstory. There also are plenty of short summaries or videos that can provide the background needed for the show.

Binged it over the weekend. Came in with zero background. Loved it. Resisted googling as I watched it. Thought the details of the world were really well done and it stood alone. Will I go back and watch the movie? Sure. Do I want more? Yes.
