I leave a nice wrapped box of candy in the mailbox. I think that's a nice token of holiday appreciation. As for our garbage men, they come so early in the morning that I don't know what to do about any sort of "gift" for them. We put our trash out the night before so I don't want to leave a gift sitting on top of the trash cans. Plus, I don't want it to look like it's part of our trash. What do others do if they can't give a gift to the garbage men in person?

The mail carriers just *carry* the mail -- they are not responsible for bulk mail distribution, sorting, etc., etc. Besides, if a mail carrier is working at 7 or 9 p.m., that's probably not his/her preference, either ... it certainly wouldn't be mine!

I think it is because of the Christmas packages/deliveries. I bet that is making the hours longer too.

I'm sure some mail carriers do not mind the long hours. Mail carriers make very good $$ on overtime!

Well only by $5. They are allowed to receive a gift worth less than $20. And Kiplinger says a gift card is an acceptable form.

No.. not illegal. I think I am free to give money/gifts/flowers/etc to anyone that I choose too. The government doesn't have the say over who gets a gift from me and who does not. That is silly.

That is a good question.... I hadn't thought of that. lol Our garbage men come around 8am so we see them.

I think the candy is very nice idea.

Maybe you can get up early one morning and leave a case of beer with a bow on the top on top of the cans.
