See, and you're doing it now. I am telling you that it bothers us when you say that. And you're saying "Oh but it's such a pretty name! I offer you comfort and empathy that you cant see what a pretty name it is." You're a jerk, basically. And you feel like if you say "I'm just trying to help you!" it makes you less of a jerk. But actually it makes you more of a jerk. |
+1 In real life, the only people who say this are a*****e Trump supporters trying to be cute and funny |
+1 Unless you work in politics. A smart rule at work is never to talk about religion or politics, especially these days when everything seems to offend someone or the other. |
| So I think many people say Republican party and call members Republicans. They do the same for Democrats. They are called Democrats and are therefore members of the Democrat Party. It may have started as a slur but I am not sure that right majority of people intend it that way. |
Do you know any actual Democrats who call it “the Democrat party“? |
Details? Like, you'd need to dig deep for this information? There are two major political parties in the U.S. Two. Not 202; two. |
If someone is that ignorant, I question whether they’re capable of being a responsible voter. |

Here is what I think is happening.......
I don't believe people say the "Democrat party" in order to be offensive. I think they are just mistaken because people in the party are referred to as "Democrats," which is a correct term. So, they actually think it is the "Democrat party." |
I just said essentially the same thing, then saw your post. |
No. This has been going on for years and the people who do it are politically engaged people who do it intentionally, not people who have never heard the correct name of the party. |
|
I’m surprised by the posts here. It seems like an obvious slur to me. In fact, almost any time you replace a before-the-noun adjective with its corresponding noun form, it sounds worse.
Compare: “my Swedish neighbor” with: “my Swede neighbor” |
No. Any intelligent person knows that this is used as a pejorative. It's disingenuous to argue otherwise. |
| They hear it on Faux and from their R elected officials. Brainwashing |
