Yes, it works better in some respects, but the real way they fund that amazing safety net is because everyone pays more taxes, through payroll and income and a huge VAT tax on consumption (think of it as a 25% sales tax on all goods and services). Warren is misleading the public when claiming that everyone but the uberrich will pay the same -- most European countries have STOPPED charging wealth tax because it produced much less than expected and was very expensive to monitor. |
+1 Warren might be far left on some issues, but I 100% support her because she has a vision for taking this country back from the rich and powerful and making it work for regular people. She is exactly the type of candidate we need to lead our country. If some proposals turn into center-left legislation after going through Congress, that is fine with me. |
DP. I dunno, people keep equating Warren to a socialist or a Democratic socialist when she isn’t so... meh. |
+2 |
Warren also has the plus of being a political woman on her own merits, not that of a related powerful man (or men) like HRC (and Pelosi). |
So says Backwoods Bunker Bob! |
I will reinforce my response. third party if she's the candidate If she wins, you'll see . . . If we can't smack down Epstein and his "clients," Warren isn't going after Big Biz. You all are so naive. |
Big question: will Warren be able to gain traction outside of her core support of white Dems with high HHI? Seriously? |
Close. About $280k. One Fed, one software engineer. Only mortgage interest and charitable contribution deductions. All public schools, except kid 1 is in a private college with a 1/2 tuition merit award. I know We are not MC. I know we have a sizeable income. I am not saying I’m poor. But take out federal, state, etc taxes. And housing. And retirement savings. And college savings— a lot, because we got hit by the recession and started saving late. College plus retirement is $6k a month right there. And healthcare for one with a chronic, thankfully not life threatening, but not cheap, illness. It adds up fast. I think $71,000 with two kids at or near college age in an area with a very high COL is doing my part. And yes, I’d like to retire some day. |
No. EW is a pretend progressive so moderates don't like her and progressives don't like her and the others don't trust her. She has one foot in the centrist pool and the other in the progressive pool. Make up your mind lady. She is an opportunist. She will be crushed by Trump if she became the nominee. |
Nope, says an actual European socialdemocrat living in the US scared by what you are doing to the Democratic Party in the USA.. |
You get to have that opinion. But the recession hit when I was 30 and in our family it hit hard. I have been a financially responsible adult, always worked, paid for high quality childcare, bought less house farther away for good public schools, bought cars that were 2-3 years old, not new. Saved like heck for college for kids and still had to tell them no private dream school without merit aid. Am saving like heck for college. When we spend money it is for our kids and their education (as opposed to their new cars and designer clothes). How much more of my income do I have to pay in taxes before I’m no longer selfish? Why should I pay off your or your kids student loan to your dream school when I said no to my own kids dream schools so they wouldn’t have loans? Everyone needs food and healthcare, and I will help pay for that. Taking out $80,000 is student loans to go to Michigan instead of UVA is a bad financial call. I’m not bailing you out. |
Tell me one policy each has that is only found in Europe in communist parties and I’ll believe you. Until then, this American with decades-long ties to senior socdem figures throughout the Continent is seeing you as a fake. |
I freely admit I don’t have an exact number on taxes. But even she freely says I’ll pay more. I expect it to be disproportionately more, because a benefit of being a Fed is relatively affordable health care. Which is to say $800 a month and a $12,000 catastrophic max, which we hit every year, because family member with expensive chronic condition. And I will be paying in for many services I will not be able to use, like childcare and college tuition. So there is no offset. |
