My son’s eyes are blue. If he asks what color they are, should I delve into his German roots? I answer “blue” and move on.

Are you one of those ignorant people who think there is no racism?

There is an age where skin or eye color questions are genuinely asking for a color. And then there's the point where the kid wants/needs more. It's like asking where babies come from, the 2yo answer is different than the 9 yo answer. Knowing more about the context of the question is helpful for being able to answer. It's possible that the PPs answer is correct for OP, but much depends on why the kid is asking. We are a mixed race family with very pale white kid. At one point his question meant what crayon should I use, and at another point he wanted to know why mommy was so much darker than him and what did it mean when the man at the store thought I was his nanny.

Caramel? Chocolate? My kids are a lovely light caramel color.

I apologize. I thought you said he was South African. Why can you say brown and that you are half South Asian?

OP here. I can say this but he's a very light brown. I guess I'll just say tan. He asked about daddy's color today and mine.

Mom of half Caucasian/ half south Asian kids here. This was helpful in figuring out why my six year old was asking. She’s in a very diverse school and was just wondering why she wasn’t the same color as other mixed race kids.
