Cosmos Club? Private Clubs in DC?

Anonymous
I'm a long time member of a downtown club that is more industry oriented and I'm glad to hear that many other clubs in DC suffer from similar problems such as elderly clientele. I heard Cosmos Club (and the others) are pretty expensive. I pay $56/month for mine.

I don’t think it’s all that expensive but to join cosmos club you pretty much have to be a published scientist or Supreme Court justice.

Lol, no.

Well please expand then. Given your response though, I don’t think you’re exactly the intellectual powerhouse they expect in their members so I’m not sure why we should trust you have accurate information.

Not quite my speed, but I’ve enjoyed every experience there. It is a great intellectual meeting place. University Club is filled with incompetent douches who believe they are experts at everything because they listen to the monthly watered down 45 minute talks. The type that get ahead (or stay where they are) because they wear suits when nobody else does in hopes that nobody will notice the incompetence.

What about the Met Club?

Yikes. No dog in this fight but this comment seems weighed down with a chip on the shoulder. Did your summer membership not evolve to an invitation to join?

DP but I have been to the Met Club and it is something else. I can't believe it still exists. I saw Tucker Carlson there when I went for lunch with a member. A black woman attended the lunch with me and was very uncomfortable.

This is ridiculous. The University Club is hardly "new money douche." The people that I know who are members (and I've considered it myself), are folks who want a consistent place to go that offers several dining rooms and workout facilities. I considered it b/c it was convenient.

The Cosmos Club is old! The building is kind of a dump.

Sulgrave closed five years ago!! It's a luxury apt. building now.

Sulgrave Club is very much open. I am a member.

What's the demographic? I recently went to a dinner there. I'm a black woman and it didn't seem diverse at all.

No. I have several lawyer friends who are members.

Have you been inside? It's a very well maintained and restored 124-year-old mansion. Not remotely a dump.

University Club definitely has a striver vibe based on the members I know (they're also in their 20s-30s, so it could be a maturity thing)

That could be anyone in the DMV area. Motto: "Act like an arsehole, they'll think you're smart."

LOL no. No, we don't.

Of course it did. In fact, it came with heavy pressure. They are struggling for members.

Back when I lived in New York, I was a member of Stewart’s Milk Club. Haven’t found anything similar here
