Look at these boards...part time care with short hours gets you the crappiest, flakiest candidates. |
I did the same schedule but both my kids woke at 6am naturally.
then they napped from 8-10 and 1-3, so basically they were in "other"care 1.5+2 hours = 3.5 hours How is that not ideal? I loved it! |
This! |
One thing I would consider is keeping to the same schedule rather than 3 days up and out early, two days later and then weekends. Depends on the kids, but three different variations would have been hard on one of mine. |
So you will working in Loudoun? All Loudoun ES teachers have this schedule. |
I gave my kids the option of getting up early to go to morning care, but then not having to stay in after care, and they jumped at it! They don't mind morning care, and love being able to come home right after school. |
Our kids' childcare was lovely in early mornings and extended afternoon times. It was quieter and the teachers would make it special. Lots of attention. |
How much would you pay for someone like this? |
Me too, I was that crazy lady at the park at 7am since my kids had been awake for a while. |
+1 You just need to keep this schedule all week. You will all be fine. |
I have one child that arrives at my home daycare early. We snuggle up and read books together for the first 1/2 hour. Child cheerfully comes in the door happily chirping about what books they want to start with. The child is also the first one picked up and gets lots of quality family time at home too. |
Agreed- many people who have never personally looked for this type of help are assuring us that "there are people who would be willing to work" those hours. Sure - for a week or two. It's my experience that often times (not always, but often) the people working those short shifts oversleep or just lose interest after a few weeks. And a college kid looking for a few extra hours - sure, it works for this semester but not next, then you have to find someone new. OP - change is hard. Your baby will be fine with an early daycare drop off, especially as they'll be picked up so early! The first few days will be hard, then everyone will get used to the new schedule. Congratulations on the new job, and good luck! |
OP, I’m not going to lie. I’m totally jealous of your part time work schedule and short commute. This is my dream schedule. I would be up with my middle schooler (his bus comes at 6:30am) and my husband would help my elementary school child in the mornings, even though she is plenty self sufficient. I would be home with plenty of time to make dinner, help them if they have questions about math home work, and to drive them to their respective sports. My only recommendation is to stabling an earlier bed time schedule. Good luck to you in your new endeavor!!! |
Good option if you offer at least $25/hr and can manage a decent relationship with her. Best to look for someone in your neighborhood. |
I had that amazing schedule ... then they went to school and I was so happy to be able to get them at 3 when school ended... but NOOOO they wanted to go to aftercare. Why? It was fun and a bunch of kids with SAHM had kids in aftercare too, because that is where the fun is... so I had to eventually shift my schedule to work until 3:30, PU at 4 so my kids could do aftercare.
It was so nice to have 3-8 with my kids and then eventually 4-9 when they were in school. I really could not think of a better scenario. |
