Preschool drama in Brooklyn Heights

Yes! I saw it last year. There is another good one about kindergarten admissions in NYC called "Getting In." I found it in segments on You Tube.

It does make one wonder why Morgano was hired in the first place. I suspect I would have enjoyed the Hope Prosky Grace School more but I do wonder what the reasons were for getting someone very different.

I moved from NYC to DC 10 years ago. My kid was 15 months. I called every private school in DC to arrange a tour and "visit". They were all very nice but EVERY single one said, "you're a bit early in the process". I was like... "wait. you mean I can actually wait until the actual admissions season!"

LOLOLOLOLOL. I felt like a complete idiot but I sure did bring my NYC sensibilities with me to DC. One Admissions Director remembered me when I applied FOUR YEARS later. She wrote me a nice note and said that she was really tickled that I was so eager.

They wanted to modernize and inject a little more rigor into the educational part of the school. Morgano had a solid record.

Entertaining read, but I found the whole thing entirely predictable. Morgano's mistake was thinking that radical change was welcome and not involving the teachers in making the changes.

Also, the quote from "Pat" at the end was fascinating. I think firing her was probably the right decision based on that.

What's remarkable is no one in this story comes off looking good. I'm not sure what, if any, benefit all of this drama there was for the children in the program. Although, there's a certain schadenfreude to reading about the panic on kindergarten admissions among these super high-rollers with ample connections.

That plus blatant ass kissing of new money without recognizing the power and pull of old money.

I was googling Chelsea Redick after reading this and stumbled on an article about JJ Redick and an “abortion contract” he asked for (and received) with a previous girlfriend. Classy.

Eh. She was fired without cause, which might have been the bosses right, but doesn’t mean some just deserts weren’t in order.

They had governnesses. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Eyre

You know what they say? Drama + time = comedy.

Isn’t it refreshing! I felt the same way after moving from London where you literally submit your child’s application at birth. 15 months would have been too late.

You know op is not the writer?

NP. Did PP indicate that she thought OP authored the article? No. She was saying thank you for posting the link.

I lived at Hicks & Middagh for years (across the street from PS8) and left the Heights back to the west coast when I was five months pregnant. This article made me nostalgic for my old hood but glad I'm not dealing with NYC privates

What an amusing article. Imagine debasing yourself for the wife of...JJ Redick? I mean, a mediocre NBA player is not nobody, but his fame peaked at Duke in the early 2000s and it has been a slow slide into sports obscurity ever since.

The NYC private school scene is endlessly fascinating to me.
