Luxmanor, Ashburton, Kensington-Parkwood, Garrett Park?

Uh, what??

How could Ashburton ever get redistricted?

There are literally two neighborhood streets separating WJ & Ashburton.

They are 0.6 miles apart if you take the long way.

Here's the Ashburton ES service area map. It answers your question.

I'm curious, though: Do most HS students in the neighborhood around Ashburton ES, across Democracy Blvd, walk to WJ? I'm not asking whether MCPS considers them walkers - I'm asking whether they actually walk (or bike).

Seems quite likely that they should at least lop off the far left and right of the area, outside of the beltway triangle.

The new school reservation PP is talking about is in the lower left of the Ashburton Map = see the empty space near the boundary line? That's where the 350 Toll Bros homes will be going in. It's pretty easy to see that the little corner near the lower left of the beltway triangle could join for a new ES (if there are any kids living there).

I see a lot of them crossing the crosswalk in the afternoon.

That lower left corner is JAM PACKED of high density townhomes, condos, and apartments, with more on the way. One bus stop fills an entire school bus, and it’s sardine-like. It should go to Wyngate. Ridiculous that it’s part of Ashburton.

Sorry, I meant the lower right part, inside the beltway.

Evidently "high density" covers the full range from 6 attached single-family houses surrounded by parking lots (~10 units per acre), to Hong Kong, Singapore, and Manhattan.

I can answer this...

Every child who lives in that entire whited area of the map that you posted is a walker to WJ.

The ONLY exception is there is ONE single bus available that picks up the kids who live in the Grosvenor Heights apartments; which is at the very end of Grosvenor right before it intersects with Rockville Pike (where it says Laureate).
They are the only bus stop in that entire white shaded area.

Everyone else is a walker.

When WJ lets out, it's almost impossible to drive on Democracy at that time because there are a minimum of 50-100 or so kids crossing at the crosswalk at Davis library who live in the Ashburton neighborhood.

There are so many, they look like a teenaged army walking down the street, lol.

There are so many kids that live in Ashburton that go to WJ, it would be virtually impossible to bus them all to another school (due to budget for bussing & logistics) as MCPS is saving so much money currently since they're all already designated walkers.

Well, they took down last year's bus routes and haven't posted this year's yet.

But I'm finding it very difficult to believe that MCPS expects kids from Pooks Hill Rd to walk to WJ. Or anywhere else that's on the other side of 270 or 495.

^^ Sorry, just re-read what you meant regarding walkers PP (as opposed to biking, skateboarding, etc).

I can only comment on the Ashburton neighborhood, but I'd say at least 90% of the walkers walk to school.

I worl in the school, so I'm right in the mix with them in the mornings and afternoon & I never see kids in the Ashburton neighborhood biking either to or from school.

In fact, I don't think I've actually ever seen a neighborhood kid on a bike going to school, but that may be because our neighborhood is so close to WJ.

I imagine a lot of the kids who live off of Grosvenor by Fleming Park or even Wildwood Pool are a lot more inclined to bike since it's a much farther distance to WJ than Ashburton.

Pooks Hill isn't in the white shaded area in the link above... we're not even discussing that neighborhood.

This PP is right... we aren't including anything below 495 in this discussion.

Yes it is, it’s in the bottom right corner of the linked map which is the Ashburton service area.
