yes, you're right. I don't care about my child because she was given my former 2009 Honda Accord instead of us buying her a brand new car. Gosh, thank you so much for making this clear. The drivers of the dozens and dozens and dozens of mid/late 2000s and early 2010 model cars I see in her high school parking lot all have parents who don't care about them, either! Does CPS gets involved in this kind of stuff? |
Cars today are loaded with technologies and are designed to be much safer than 20 years ago. I would not call your 20 years old car safer than today's cars. Are you still using your 20 years old computer today? You can't because it does not work in the "modern" world. Lexus is a very reliable brand and that's what I get for my child. |
Seriously? My DH and I have a combined annual income in the millions. Not kidding. And we got our teen driver a used Subaru. DH did. Ton of research about safest cars for teen drivers, and that was the winner. I wouldn’t but my kids new luxury cars. |
Many years ago I was a passenger in rear seat with no seat belt on and the car hit a tree head on at 60 miles per hour and did a triple roll over. A cop saw accident and told us he thought we would be dead Well that four door Buick when I looked it up was consumer reports winner in that model year for safest car in a collision. The car was mangled but passenger compartment fine - but a top safety pick |

Volvo diesel wagon from the 90’s. Safe, slow, crashworthy.
I can’t believe people are suggesting Teslas. JFC, do you have a big life insurance policy on your kid or what? Let’s see... premium luxury car, sporty, goes fast... yeah, sure let’s give it to a new driver. What could possibly go wrong? Might as well give them a 5th of bourbon and a loaded handgun too. Just make sure your premium is paid up. The kid might get yourva beach house when he dies in the inevitable crash you’re setting him up for. |
Absurdly stupid, dangerous choice. |
+1, I think they’re trolling. I really doubt anyone is dumb enough to get a brand new driver a $40,000 high performance sedan. |
I buy my son a Tesla model 3 because I can afford it so that he can drive to school as a rising HS senior. What’s wrong with that? |
