MIT grad here with 2 degrees and near perfect GPA. Boring show. Lots of homework and studying. Multiple all nighters. Drugs on weekends and some booze to let off steam.

Hard work works. Thanks, PP.

My impression is that they give a lot of aid to people they want.

Not unique to MIT. No other explanation for my kid getting 2x the financial aid than the college in question's NPC said we should expect. It was also far more than any other college offered in merit or financial aid.

She seems really smart on paper but what's the point of acting so dumb?

No you don't, liar.

Native American admissions preference requires a tribal code. So if that student got one, they are native american, despite your pantone chart bullshit.

Let’s ask your hero and my zero Senator Warren. She think all you need is a MyDNA you can order OTC showing 0.1-1.6% native ancestry.

Nothing otherwise remarkable.

Rythmic Gymnastics but not anything remarkable there either.

National champion in rhythmic gymnastics. National merit finalist. I’d say she was remarkable.

I meant to type nothing else remarkable.

It was actually a compliment.

You don't have to have your mom create a foundation and pretend you did it.

They (MIT) just want smart kids. Some schools are like that. MIT is known for not taking hooked kids.

WRONG there. Also, MIT is currently enmeshed in doing away with their gymnastics program altogether. NP here. Most of these posters won't know WTF they are talking about, as usual.

Keep spreading your BS and lies. It doesn't change the facts. (assuming you are the PP) you said you knew someone who got in after marking American Indian and you didn't.

Most of the students at MIT had to live in frats and sororities until very recently, as there was not enough Institute housing - hence one reason for the heavy drinking. They have since added freshman dorms because of the suicide and death risks associated with heavy drinking. Also, freshman year is now mandated pass/fail because of the pressure. I don't know that I would personally tell anyone to go there. DP here.

For you to know what others know or don’t know, you must be a genius. Why don’t you tell us when Trump’s ground war’s gonna start in Iran?

Sounds smart though

so that was her hook then.

Yep, this is why she got in compared to all the other kids with near perfect numbers. She was also on a state championship mock trial team.

And a female pursuing STEM which still helps at MIT (half as many women as men apply to MIT).

My TJ son had stats pretty much the same as hers (4.0 UW/2380 SAT, NMF, 5s on all APs, 800's subject tests), took harder classes, did lots of ECs, did well in sports/academic competitions (but no national championships), and he was rejected by MIT.

It's crazy that she got into MIT and not JHU, Tufts, NYU, or any of the Ivies. It's all so random

I wouldn't be half near as annoying.

Umm... heard MIT (and also CalTech) seek out qualified females. It’s well known women are disadvantaged in SLACs - but not in engineering schools where they are traditionally underrepresented.

Coaches at MIT don’t help with admission... so it doesn’t matter what they are doing with the gymnastics program.
