Both are great neighborhoods, and I'd be happy to live in either one.
One nice advantage of Sommerset is the town pool because it's so nice and such a great place to hang out in the summer. The houses are more expensive in Sommerset than in Wood Acres because the former is just walking distance from downtown Bethesda, which is lovely.
Westland MS is now a lot smaller with the opening of the second middle school in the BCC cluster. That's a big advantage.
I think it's nice to consider moving the kids during elementary so that they can use those years to build friendships. I think it's a bit easier to make neighborhood friends during elementary school.
This. The Somerset catchment encompasses some really nice walkable SFHs. You can get to either the FH or Bethesda metros depending on where you are, the capital crescent trail, the Somerset pool (private) or the Bethesda pool (public.). It’s also a very walkable area to retail. The school is lovely with a strong PTA, limited turnover and a lot of resources.
