End of Year Teacher Gifts?

Not that they aren't a good teacher, but we've been through the whole year. Let's move on. They've been appreciated enough. It's not like they aren't getting a gift card from the whole class. Nowadays is a note without a gift card appreciated?

It is. I, a teacher, specifically wrote that it was.

Something that everyone can use and can't get enough of. You can always use more notecards and you can never find an umbrella when you need it.

Omg. A flippin umbrella?! You can’t be serious. I’d be so pissed if that was my end of year gift!

Seriously, I’d hope you’d be grateful that someone went out of their way.

Momg not this again

Of course I appreciate anything a parent or kid does. BUT IF PEOPLE ARE ASKING FOR IDEAS, this is the way to go. It doesn’t mean I’m spitting on the Starbucks card. I would just prefer this and a parent genuinely asked.

A good way to communicate this is something like “I appreciate all gifts and gift cards but I prefer something general instead of specific, like Target instead of Starbucks.”

Telling people “enough with the Starbucks” is obnoxious and not true....I have teacher friends that love them and told me specifically to give them.

My comment at 4:03 says specifically that. A constructive suggestion of what to get/do.

Why would a gift make you angry ?

DD's teacher is getting a tote with her monogram and 2 favorite characters (she mentioned needing a new tote for the fall during a spring performance, and said how much she loved monograms) with a coordinating small zip bag. Plus a card where we will tell her how much we love her and wish she was moving up grade levels lol, with a $25 Target gift card. DD will make her own card and character keychain.

Nothing says you’re such a great teacher, we appreciate you...like an umbrella. Lol!

I would give it in September to wish the teach a good new start. Encourage and inspire them through money.

Apparently you aren't as great a teacher as you think you are. You're welcome.

Better yet, email their principal and AP about what they did for your kid that year and what you loved about them. Admin never gets to see when we are praised, they usually only hear from upset parents. It’s not like we go show them all the cards we get. CC the teacher too so they can see but gas them up to their leadership if they were awesome!

That is a really great idea. Thank you!

Brilliant! Thank you!!

NP here. Seriously? Be thankful for whatever the parent can give you. If you don't like the umbrella donate.

Our class parents do a collection for the holidays, teacher appreciation week, and end of the year. I give to each pool. I have no idea how many people contribute but I am happy to. I know teachers aren’t paid enough and we love our teachers.

Just take the money you would have spent on the umbrella and put it toward the class gift card, please! We don’t need monogrammed notecards or tote bags, either!
