How long did you keep your kid in a 5 point harness?

Kid will be in a 5 point harness until he hits the weight limit (90 pounds).

There's a height limit, too.

I posted earlier that we harnessed my kid until age 8.
BUT there was a recent study showing that some car seat straps broke in high speed crashes (tests) when kids approached but did not exceed the weight limit of the carseat.

That said, my 39 lb 5 yo will stay harnessed for a while.

My 60 plus pound 6.5 year old is still in one.

We have the Britax G1.1 frontier. I think she could stay in it until 90 pounds and almost 5 feet tall.

My 15 year old just barely hit 90 lbs.

Very nearly 6. She just need a cleared 40 pounds a month before her birthday.

Harnessed my kids in a 5 pt harness until they were 6. Then high back booster until 8. Then backless booster until... 10 or 11?

I kept my son in one until he was 7. My sister didn't even have her wafer thin 8 year old in a booster. I didn't say anything, but luckily her pediatrician addressed it.

Until 6 .5 years old.

Wish I could find it but there was a study that showed 5 point harness is not necessarily safer due to where it puts pressure for bigger kids, and I think they are redoing standards or discussing this in Europe. It was interesting — involved crash simulation.
