| This is my 10th grade DS. I love that I am his best friend but I worry so much. He finally said, mom, would it make you happier if I were hanging out with the kids who are getting in trouble all the time? That Mae me take a big step back and realize I need to let him be him. |
You are describing me in HS. I was friendly with everyone but was fine doing my own thing after school. Funny thing is, I ended up living in the same dorm who used to go to HS with me. Now she was super popular, lots of friends. In college, she was no longer a social butterfly. She turned in a hermit, quite frankly. She said it was liberating to no longer have to chase "popularity."

This was me in high school. High school was just meh, and there wasn't much to do besides drink, smoke pot, drive around, and I just wasn't into it. I did occasional extracurriculars at school, but didn't have a super active social life. I had a great time in college and felt like I really connected with people at a deeper level and had much more lasting friendships in college.
If he doesn't seem unhappy, don't worry. Sounds well-adjusted and ready to move on to the next phase of his life! |
