Yup, I am appreciating this thread.

Lordy, that’s not what’s at the beach right now. I see a bunch of thong wanna-bes everywhere on young teens. What is this style? Not quite thong but skimpier than “cheeky” styles.

Cheeky is kind of a spectrum and it's becoming the default for a lot of suits right now on the market. Saw. Soooooooo many of varying degrees on the beach this weekend for women from like 14- 65. Kind of reminds me of Rio. I honestly don't hate it. Bodies are just bodies, good bad and ugly but who cares?

Agreed. This is a very healthy attitude.

Teens girls and their bathing suits ~ it's just h*ll that has to be endured and be glad when you've come out the other side. You do your best as a parent. Thank goodness most of our summer vacations involved Grandparents, Uncles, other relatives, and I would ask, "is that going to be appropriate to wear around Grandpa?"

That's kind of how I feel. But I do recognize that it is a big culture shift and it could therefore be kind of uncomfy for older family members, etc. For a very very long time swimsuits were linked so strongly to sex. Obviously some are intended to be be sexier but we took that link to an extreme. So it's a hard habit to break. Also o completely get being a 14 year old coming of age in our culture and just not wanting to deal with feeling or being sexualized and all the other shit that comes with being 14!

But mostly I like that it's more anything goes. I feel like it lines up more with other Western cultures.
