Mia a real name or nickname?

According to the Social Security office, the name Mia entered the top 600 (#568) in 1964 and were in the top 300-500 until the year 2000. Then it moved into top 100 and stayed there. It was #7 with 12,642 kids born last year in the US.

I have a cat named Mia. So yes it's a real name.

I don’t care for the name but Miriam is Biblically and Torah based. If that’s important go for it and call her Mia for short.

Because it's lovely and classic? I love Miriam but it sounds bad with our last name. (Just found out I'm having another boy, so there goes the girl's name waiting in the wings anyway....)

+2 Miriam features in the book of Exodus. Classic is not the same as "old-lady".

Mia is the full first name of the Mias I know. Miri is a common nn for Miriam. Mari nn for Maria or longer variants.

I have a Miriam we call Mia. We don’t know anyone else who has done this-but she is 8 and loves her name and nickname!
