New to area - feedback on Silver Creek Middle School

IMO this is the best MS school in the county. It's high performing, diverse in terms of race and SES, and has great new facilities. Best of all everyone is from the same neighborhood. You are not going to find that anywhere else.

You could argue TPMS has a lot of these too but I think having a magnet divides the school for a lot of reasons including the fact that a large number of kids are coming from far away.

Everyone is from the same neighborhood?!

You know what they mean. No one is busing from far away like the magnets.

My son’s best friend switched to Silver Lake for 7th this year and they’re super pleased. He had made a ton of new friends. Family is not low SES, FWIW

Several parents bought homes in good HS cluster paying premium price for better schools only to realize that MCPS boundary studies reassigned them to the schools at the bottom of the rating list.
Most moved to other areas in search of better schools again. Now that MCPS is planning another county wide boundary study with primary goal of equity in schools,

Do you want to pay premium prices for the homes in this area? What is the plan if the planned study re-assigns the schools?

We don't know which cluster you're talking about, and what does any of this have to do with Silver Creek Middle School?

Silver Lake is in Los Angeles.

You clearly don’t live in Chevy Chase. Your characterization of home prices is off, and you raise an issue - the reassignment of middle schools away from BCC, that the county has repeatedly said is not on the table.

Well, I suspect you are a liar about your 7th grader. Dr. Townsend retired 2 years ago...

Yes, but the quality of students is also not very close. When was the last team Silver Creek won a state or national math competition?

So the bar for acceptable middle school is one where the kids win state and national competitions?

It is nice of MoCo to bus in smart kids from Bethesda to prop up TP. At least the local kids have kids to look up to

Most of those attending TPMS are bussed in from Silver Spring but regardless it's hands down top MS by any objective metrics
