Middle schoolers at Starbucks after school

I went to clubs and music festivals throughout high school, university and beyond. Never touched any drugs (despite knowing kids who did), and strangely enough did well in school, ended up with a fancy PhD, job I love, great DH and two cute kids. Most of my friends were/are the same. Stop the panic! Let the kids have a mochaccino or whatever. In my high school days, we'd go out until 11 or midnight, then get Taco Bell on the way home. I'd get lectures about how unhealthy Taco Bell fries were but it was up to me whether to go or not.

We certainly let them go, but do not give them a dime for this. Our DDs started babysitting/being mother's helpers around that time, so this was something they could choose to spend their money on, so when it was gone it was gone. Occasionally they get Starbucks gift cards from friends or relatives as well. As far as the caffeine and sugar, as many PPs have stated, I'd certainly rather they were drinking coffee or whatever from there than smoking weed someplace.

They should use their own money for stuff like that. In MS, they should be able to earn it pet sitting, off jobs, whatever. They'll figure out how expensive it is when it's their own money!
