Same with the 3.9 GPA if weighted. Her scores and GPA are too low for those schools |
BU and Northeastern would be a reach for OP kid’s current scores. |
I graduated from Tufts many years ago and had a wonderful experience. The city is a great melting put of college students and frankly by junior and certainly senior year any college campus can become a bit boring and/or stifling and the opportunity to socialize with friends at MIT, BU, Harvard, Wellesley, Simmons and elsewhere was a fantastic outlet. If you went to the Hong Kong or the Boathouse on a weekday you'd meet amazing kids from other schools. Maybe things have changed but I hope not. |
Her score is not too low for UMD. |
It is, actually. |
The 25-75 for UMD is 1290-1470 and the OP said her DD plans on retaking the test. She’ll probably be fine getting into Maryland. |
Agreed. Our school's naviance shows a LOT of kids admitted with that score. |
OP also said the 3.9 was unweighted and the weighted GPA was around 4.2. In-state UMD is a target for her (she's above the 50% mark on both metrics) even if her SATs don't improve. |
| My daughter just got into UMD Engineering with nearly identical stats. |
|
She sounds like she likes a slightly crunchy vibe … how about Ithaca?
|
|
I'm going to add to the chorus of voices suggesting that your DD find some additional schools.
Our son has nearly perfect stats and two weak hooks, and he is unlikely to get into half of those schools. Kids should have a few reaches, but not 75%. I also would not count on a huge jump in the SAT, if you are thinking that is what is going to push her over the edge. What about Ithaca College? Bryn Mawr? Drexel? Amherst? College of Charleston? U of Richmond? Loyola? She can probably get into Case if you are full pay. U of GA, Villanova, SMU, Loyola in Chicago, U of Colorado |
Oberlin will |
Lol....Amherst? Zero chance. |
DP. I loved Stanford’s campus, it’s totally subjective. |
our Naviance shows literally every single student with those scores getting into UMD. |
