I just looked at the lottery and there are 5 out of boundary preK siblings on the top of the list for Murch. I assume that means the in boundary sibs get in, then these 5, then the rest of us that are in boundary depending on the in-boundary lottery? Murch has the most out-of-boundary sibs of any school... |
25% of the students at Murch are out-of-boundary according to the school newsletter. That can have a significant impact on the pre-K lottery process.
Please post when the process is complete this year and how things went. I am planning on mounting an effort to get the lottery preference policy changed, but at this point I will wait to hear what happens this year. Thanks! |
will do! |
when did the letters for murch preK go out?
does anyone know if other dcps preks notified people sooner? thanks! |
The letters for Murch have not gone out yet. We won't get them until the beginning of April. Most, if not all, other schools doing the in boundary lottery have already sent out letters (Lafayette and Janney for sure, not sure about Mann or Key). Very frustrating! |
This is ridiculous- the lottery was done on March 13, and the letters are not going out until early April? I am writing Michelle Rhee (michelle.rhee@dc.gov). I cannot believe that we are being treated as a pain when, in fact, we are the constituents here. I hope if Michelle Rhee hears from more of us, things will change. |
Why can't you check online? It seems to me that you can, the list is there with ID numbers, right? |
You can check the results of the out-of-boundary lottery online. It's the in-boundary lottery for Murch preK that we won't hear about until April. From what I can tell, the lottery has already taken place and I haven't been able to figure out why we can't get an answer now (see thread "Help with Murch"...). Anyway, it's now spring break which I suspect has at least something to do with it. |
We got our letter from Murch today - 13th on the waitlist. The letter said they had 40 spots, but didn't mention how many applicants.
My sense from last year is that many of the waitlisted kids will get offered spots once the school year begins, when the school learns how many students are truly enrolled. |
We got our letter too. Accepted! Miracle. Why they said beginning of April I really don't know. I think #13 is almost definitely going to turn into a spot. I met people who were 16 or 17 last year and they ended up getting in. Our letter said the waitlist was very long but didn't put a number on it. |
17:34 -- Are you in-boundary or out?
Also, are you saying that spots open up after the school year starts? I would think most people would have made other arrangements (i.e. paid tuition somewhere or started them at another school) and wouldn't switch then, am I wrong? I am watching this process for next year and am curious. |
Someone at the school told me that there were 70 in bound applicants- we just found out that we are #18 on the waitlist ![]() |
It would be great to encourage any parents that aren't going to use their spot to let the school know asap so waitlisters don't have to sweat longer than necessary. Not sure how to do this other than, maybe, posting to the mailing list? I think even 18 has a good shot but hard to say for sure. I did hear that the waitlists were of similar length for Lafayette and Murch last year but while everyone ended up getting into Lafayette, that was not true for Murch. ugh. Good luck!! |
17:34 here - we're in-boundary. Friends who were way down on the wait list last year were offered a spot about 2 weeks into the school year. I think they could have gotten out of their daycare situation, but it was too late to arrange for pre- and aftercare, so they decided to wait until K.
We won't be sending our daughter to Murch next year, so everyone below 13 on the waitlist just moved up a spot! |
I am in-boundary for Murch and DC was waitlisted last year at #16. We were offered a preK spot during the second week of the 2007-08 school year.
We passed because we had already spent about $2,000 on a private preschool. |
