Son (15) wants to pierce his ears...

He is 15. Earrings are not permanent. Let him do it. But remind him that he needs to keep them clean.

I would never feel right holding my son to a different standard on this than my daughter, even though it would be a slightly different conversation since it's less common in men. Thus, my son would have to wait til he's 11, just like my daughter. This is similar to my feelings about hair length. I won't tell my son he can't have long hair but my daughter can any more than I'd tell my daughter she can't have short hair.

It’s harmless. DH had his pierced in the 90s. He’s a conservative middle aged man now. I would have an issue if my son or daughter wanted to put expanders in their ears to stretch them out but I’d have no issues with regular piercings. He can take them out if he changes his mind.

Me again. Does he play sports? I keep encouraging my daughter to wait because she’s very involved in sports year round and can’t wear earrings during the games. I want her to wait until she has a break to make it easier those initial weeks of care. That would be my only concern for any kid.
