Here are a handful of actual emergencies we have had during the work day:

1) DD fell off a playground structure at school and broke her arm - teachers needed to call us to come to hospital. Sure, it COULD have waited until 5:30 but...
2) I was pregnant with our second child and started gushing blood in the middle of the day. Went to emergency room and ended up in operating room. I guess I maybe COULD have dealt with all that by myself, but...
