You mean the teacher at Sheppard who died. Yeah- that was pretty f*ckkng awful.

Link?

NP here. I don’t have a link, but my DC has a middle school classmate who knew that teacher, and is still very sad about the death.

There's also a memorial in the school garden.

There’s no link because it was kept on the hush hush. It’s not really something the news would report anyway.... Certainly many people can opt not to commute to/from work due to weather without consequences but when the school system opens despite poor weather conditions and people don’t show up kids aren’t supervised or safe.

That said, this morning was a silly call.

Why would the family want to keep it hush hush? It just seems weird that the media wouldn't have picked up on it.

The family is out of state, DCPS wouldn’t have publicized it, and DCPS teachers and staff who speak with the media re: DCPS in any sort of negative light risk their jobs. I doubt the media would know she was a teacher commuting to school just from public accident records. I only know of the situation through word of mouth amongst other DCPS teachers. I guess there wasn’t anything more noteworthy about it than a tragic accident on a day with poor weather. Just seems like DCPS could take into account the distance their staff travels early in the mornings to make sure buildings can open for students when that’s the call that’s made. Not arguing the employer is liable, just indicating it’s not some urban legend that it happened.
