APS calls it that... random, double-blind system -- applications are randomly assigned numbers and numbers are randomly drawn. |
Hahahaha! The joke's on us. |
It's more like double random, but whatever, the point is it doesn't matter what order you apply, they randomize the application stack (by randomly numbering them), then they randomly draw from that (by randomly drawing numbers). |

Kids get in off the wait list. Mine was #5 for our elementary, got in in eight grade. It turned out he was friends with the girl who was #4--she wasn't back at his neighborhood school at the beginning of eighth, then she showed up a week later and told her friends she had tried H-B and didn't like it so she switched back. He realized later that was why the spot opened up for him. But there is movement on wait lists, which may be why kids just show up at H-B in 7th or 8th. The enrollment is capped so the administrators can't just let kids in as a favor. (Also, seriously? Why would they do that?) |
Well, that will change this year with them no longer rolling over the wait list from year to year. Also, this is obviously very school dependent. I have a coworker whose child was #1 the wait list for their school, and never got off of it. |
| I think the email will go out after the offices are closed so that they won’t have to field phone calls! |
If they are smart!
|
Phone calls about what? It is a lottery! |
| any news, anyone? |
Just got a text about WL IB program. |
| Was that some kind of lottery? Thanks |
Nothing about HB yet |
Yes it was a lottery for students (not inbound for WL) who are interested in the IB program. I guess that means you’ll hear soon, via text. |
No, this was sixth grade. Why would they do that? Friends do friends favors is the only explanation for the case I am familiar with. There was no need. |
