| Right, 18 more deaths were attributed but 18 deaths did not occur in one week. Sheesh. |
Yes, some of them occurred LAST YEAR. |
My son did not get HIVES. And my point was that it would be just dandy to not have to worry about side effects like he experienced when considering whether to get a vaccine and that this poster had nott been through such a reaction as a result of SHOT not IN GENERAL. |
1. I was responding specifically to the mention of the hives thread. Don't know if that was you, but look at the chain above. 2. As a matter of fact, DS1 has had a reaction including fever and rash as a result of a vaccination about a year ago, so I know exactly what you are talking about. And we had to deal with it on a weekend, so there was no one to examine it. And we had the high fever that required alternating tylenol and motrin. 3. In my family, we have a pretty long list of people with food allergies, including egg, which makes vaccinations very difficult. So you are wrong to assume that we have it easy, just because I disagree with you. But I'm going with the data, and so far it says this vaccine is as safe as any. So I'm not going to get worked up by a handful of posts about people with hives, and since we aren't seeing anything about GBS spiking, I'm not going to worry about that either. |
It doesn't say attribued, it says reported. So you are saying that the deaths may not occur in the weeks they are reported? What would lead you to believe that? |
Well, I doubt it's ever going to be possible to know how many GBS cases are caused by vaccines, but it is known that vaccinations can lead to it. I'm all for necessary vaccinations, but I personally am concluding not to do this one or seasonal flu shots. It is a personal choice influenced by the fact that I know GBS cases (through working in the health field) and I've weighed up the risks. It may be incorrect logic to you, but it is what I feel comfortable with. The OP asked to know why people are making this decision and I've explained why. It's impossible to have 'correct logic' when you can't get complete cold hard facts like this. |
That's what it says on the CDC site. |
Well it's fine to do what you want. But we do know a lot more than you are saying about the causes of GBS. We do not always have a cause, but they aren't correlated with vaccinations. |
Where, please? |
Did you READ all three pages of this thread. Someone already posted it. 2009-2010 Influenza Season Week 43 ending October 31, 2009 All data are preliminary and may change as more reports are received. Synopsis: During week 43 (October 25-31, 2009), influenza activity remained elevated in the U.S. •Eighteen influenza-associated pediatric deaths were reported. Fifteen of these deaths were associated with 2009 influenza A (H1N1) virus infection and three were associated with an influenza A virus for which the subtype was undetermined. |
it's posted already. on page 2 of this thread. |
| A death may not be reported the week the child died because it is not reported until H1N1 is confirmed. Lab test may not come back with confirmation within the reporting time. If only one child had died that is one too many. We know how to slow this thing down. Keep your children home when they are sick and get the shot. |
| I disagree that the decision over whether or not to get the vaccine for yourself or your kids is a "personal" decision. A "personal" decision is becoming a vegetarian or deciding to home school your kids. The decision not to get yourself or your kids vaccinated raises potential consequences for the health and welfare of your community. I'm not advocating a role for government to mandate the vaccine. I believe people should be free to chose whether or not to get the vaccine. However, I don't believe they should expect society to accept their decision not to get vaccinated as a "personal" decision. Like it or not we are all in this together and your decision not to vaccinate your kid puts other people at risk. In other words, you and your child aren't likley to be the only ones who will suffer the consequences if you forego the vaccine and contract H1N1 as a result. |
Here is the relevant part the PP was asking about: "Seven deaths reported during week 43 occurred during the 2008-09 season" |
When are you planning on moving to a country ruled by a totalitarian regime? Or do you simply advocate shunning people, like the Amish do? Either way, your backward attitude is off-putting. |
