Should I feel ashamed for not getting a dented fender repaired on the family car?

I drive a 15-year-old Acura that runs well but it's got the usual assortment of dings and scratches from careless drivers. Plus one stupid dent from when I hit a column in a too-tight parking garage. I just don't care anymore. I'm hesitating on getting a new car because I know that first dent or scratch will really piss me off!

No, I would not repair. I stopped repairing cosmetic damage to my car when we moved to the DC area. Not worth it.

If your family members are so invested they can pay for the repairs.

Would you want to live in a neighborhood where most cars parked outside had dings and dents in them?

+1. DC - Bloomingdale. You park on the street, you get dings and dents.

I use to live on the Upper Westside in Manhattan. This pretty much describes every car parked on the street. Loved living there!

Shame is an awfully strong term for ignoring a ding on your fender, don't you think?

I have a ding in the front of my car (that my DH did, lol) - and that we haven't gotten fixed. I am not ashamed at all. I will say I have been stopped multiple times by guys in parking lots who tell me they could give me a real deal on the repair for it.

And while I am a feminist as a general matter, when I encounter people are randomly trying to sell me things, I claim I can't make any decisions without DH. Terrible, I know, lol.

That’s what pushed me to get my dent fished—those skeevy guys pulling up and trying to sell me a repair job.

DO NOT agree to these, by the way. They will mess your car up worse. Ask me how I know
