Should I feel ashamed for not getting a dented fender repaired on the family car?

You should feel ashamed for being so shallow and for asking stupid questions.

My beautiful new SUV got a corner dent the first week I owned it. I drove it that way for 6 years convinced that if I repaired it, it would happen again. Finally got it repaired, drove the car for 3 more years without another ding and then sold the car.... Should have fixed it right away.

Who really cares if they are embarrassed? You park it on the street. It will get dented up, that's a fact of like. If you don't care, then don't fix it. It's not affecting the drivability at all.

Why is s grown adult asking someone how s/he should feel. Grow up, DCUM!

This is the benefit of driving an old car that you park on the street. You don’t have to fix dings and scratches. Let them be.

I love my 21 yr old Honda. Runs great! Looks like shit. I drove it over to my body shop guy today to see the progress on my new Tesla that is getting wrapped and ceramic coated (and is garaged). The body shop guys had a good laugh over the Honda. The car is perfect for DC and bumper car traffic. Not getting one thing fixed.

"Ashamed" is such a poor word choice.

When I see parents with dents in their cars I tend to respect them more, because I think they're the kind of people who don't care what other people think. Kind of silly but I do.

Your situation sounds OK to leave as is. But in general, I think that cars that aren't repaired after accidents look very ghetto.

Before the Honda driver jumps all over me - this is very different from a car that is just old. My parents drive a car that just turned over 200K miles. The inside shows wear, but you would never know from the outside that the car is 15+ years old. Keep it classy.

I am actually really relieved when I get my first scratch or ding on a new car, because then I can stop holding my breath and being stressed about keeping it perfect! I have a dent in my car door that happened within the first month or two, though I have no idea how. Ah well.

Don't fix it. You've been already aggravated by the accident, by relatives and now you have to pay out of pocket for it. I thought fixing the dents is a must, once it past the inspection, hell with the dents.

I don't understand why you don't just try one of the cheap dent repair solutions out there, like this one:

+1 Not fixing an obvious dent= you can’t afford it

Parking in the street will always give your car dents. I have a bumper bully but my car stills get scratched from cars that parallel park.

Calling something ghetto is racist, by the way. However, as someone who grew up low income, we were ashamed if a car had a dent or loud muffler, or some other obvious sign that we couldn’t afford the repair.

I was going to ask OP if the other family member who cares also grew up low income. Because if that’s the case, that’s probably where the concern is coming from.
