has your kid had any side effects to the h1n1 shot?

or 8:32 children could have been exposed Tuesday and gotten H1N1. You aren't immune right after getting the shot. It builds, and even with a great immune reponse and esp. depending on ages, 4-5 days isn't likely to be enough time for a child to develop immunity. and from what I read, children generally can spread the disease a day before they show symptms so it seems unlikely they were infecting folks on Saturday. good luck 8:32 --hope they get better quickly.

My son got the mist and was a little cranky that night but it might have been because he went to bed a few hours later than normal becuase we went in to DC for the clinic and got home late. Nothing noted the next day. I got the shot and haven't noticed any side effects although it has only been 2 days.

Thanks, and to answer an earlier question, one got the mist and the other got the shot (based upon timing of their prior flu shots).

My 15-month old slept for an extra hour and a half the morning after the shot but he is happy and fine.

Does this mean they were infected before the vaccine. The CDC website says incubation is 1 -7 days.

Could have been infected before or after as the immunity from the shot builds, it is not immediate. If under 9, full protection would have only been achieved after a second dose of vaccine given a 3-4 weeks after the first.

BTW, if kids were given the injectable form of the vaccine, there is NO possible way that kids could have gotten h1n1 from the vaccine as the injectable is made from killed virus. The mist is from live attenuated virus -- virus is live but can't make you sick, other than mild reactions.

Son got flumist yesterday and was fine all day and evening. He was okay this morning, but just started complaining of a headache. He now has a temp. of 100.7 and seems tired and ill. Any other reactions like this?

Such as?

Growing a little pink tail or an upturned nose.

My DD and DS are experiencing the above side effect. It's really cute, though, so we aren't too alarmed....

Sure, it's hilarious now...

Relax, it's just a flu shot. People can joke around.

My 6 1/2 mo., my DH and I all got the shot on Saturday morning. So far, no side effects other than that my DH and I both felt a very slight localized soreness/achiness at the site of the shot. DD obviously doesn't speak, so she may have felt mild soreness too, though you wouldn't know it -- she's been in great spirits, energetic, happy, sleeping well and acting completely normally in the 48 hrs since the shot.

This is not in direct reference to the H1N1 shot but it does make me nervous about flu shots in general...My mother's co-worker went straight home after receiving the regular flu shot and his throat was closing up by the time he got there. He was able to call 911 and they told him to immediately take Benadryl and that paramedics were on the way. The hospital diagnosed him as having had an allergic reaction to the flu shot and thank God he is okay. Does anybody know how often a reaction like this occurs?

These reactions are incredibly rare, much more rare in fact, than death from the flu.

Anyway, the OP was not asking about random news stories we can all look up. She was asking for firsthand experience from other parents who have had the shot in this area. Sounds like mild fever, fussiness, and sore arms are the most extreme so far.

Both my 7 year old son and I got the vaccine last Tuesday. He got the mist and I got the shot. On Friday evening he came down with what seems like a cold - sneezing, coughing, stuffy nose but NO FEVER. He is in fine spirits. I have no idea if he just has a cold, a reaction to the vaccine or even a mild version of the H1N1 since he was exposed to the flu last Friday (4 days before the vaccine) but he has had none of the major symptoms the sick children had which included high fevers and extreme fatigue as well as cold symptoms.

My sons got the h1n1 flumist on Sat. This morning(monday), my 4 yr old woke up and told me his back and neck hurt. I thought he was being silly. Later on this afternoon he said it again, which I knew then he wasn't playing and it was time for the thermometer. 101.3-102. right now. Have a call in to the Dr. just so he knows and can call me back and tell me when I need to worry My little guy(2), is too little to tell me really if something hurts but he had a slight fever as well(100.5). So I gave them ibuprofen and they are napping right now. From what I've read, it shouldn't last long. I had a choice of the shot or the flumist and I chose flumist because I knew it would be easier to give it to them. You know seeing as how kids don't like shots and all and I knew they would get stressed about the needle. Now I'm feeling like a bad mommy

My kids were both vaccinated (shot, not mist) with no side effects.

However, my 5 year old was diagnosed with H1N1 6 days later. The vaccine didn't have enough time to set in before he was exposed. My 8 year old daughter is still well.
