This is inaccurate. Most GT freshman live on campus.

Georgia Tech:

30% of the kids families make under $30K a year.

30% of the kids families make over $120K a year

Now you know where your OOS tuition goes towards.

With the focus on STEM, GT has become a pretty hot commodity, so doesn't need to shell out to get good students.

There's your answer. GT is almost impossible to get into for some areas like aerospace engineering. It's also a state school. It gets thousands of international applicants. It simply doesn't have to offer aid to get top students.

DH went to GATech with reciprocity from VA for a specific engineering degree, does that not exist anymore?

High scoring kids are far more plentiful then there are spots. Lots of full pay to snap up that slot if you pass. GT is a great great school. Still stings that my kid passed on this, but she made the right choice for her and it’s paying off in happiness and opportunities. Here’s an idea, if you want to save money go in state. If you really only care about money then do two years of CC first.

Calm down. People are looking for anyway to not pay full price for college. So what? College is way overpriced. People are literally mortgaging their futures so they/their kids can addend college. And, yes, sometimes those people have a dream college, be it in-state or not. There is nothing wrong with any of that. So, I'm not sure why you're being such an ass.
nobody pays full price for college any more than they pay full price for drugs.
