Beauvoir - New Parent with Parking/Traffic Frustrations

That's why I don't have any stickers on my car!

I only have one that no one around here knows anything about so I am safe. It is funny how people sport stickers from their wonderful play-based preschool and then drive like idiots. Way to represent!

I'm shocked that you would not know about the Cathedral garage.

Also suggest talking to other parents or the staff. It's sad that feel you have to ask questions on DCUM.

Not OP but I am a new parent and we haven’t received a handbook yet because it’s being reviewed by the new HOS.

As a new parent I also have found drop off to be daunting and also I have been very surprised by the outrageous displays of wealth. Perhaps it is something I will get used to but I haven’t found it to be the most welcoming place from a parent standpoint. The teachers do a great job of helping but guidance as well as an extended hand from more seasoned parents would be helpful.

what constitutes an “outrageous display of wealth”? kids parachuting out of a Gulfstream into the the carpool line?

I’d b happy to help, but I have to know that you need help. No one can read your mind.

Beauvoir is a pretty friendly place. I can’t imagine anyone refusing to answer a question from a new parent or failing to extend a helping hand when asked.

what is the difference between the Cathedral garage vs the NCS athletic center garage? are both used by parents during drop off / pick up? which is closer to the front door of the school? thank you (new parent without a handbook)

I know people don’t have handbooks which is a bummer and must leave you with a lot of questions. The athletic center garage is directly in front of Beauvoir so much closer but only has a handful (10?) spaces that are available for Beauvoir parents during drop off. The cathedral garage is a block away but has tons of parking

I would say this is the definition of privilege. Someone new to this world just might not feel they can ask for help, especially when they don’t live in the same neighborhood or socialize in the same circles. How about this, when you are huddled in a circle talking with your friends around the coffee I would reccomend opening up your circle and welcoming a new parent in.

Beauvoir's carpool is usually pretty smooth, and one of the better ones among the Big 3. Part of why it takes longer early in the year are new families and kids who aren't used to the drill. Yesterday, I saw a little girl in carpool who took 6 minutes to get out of the car. Yes, carpool can be a slog, but understand that children are the reason why, not disorganization.

I would have lost my mind! We treat it as a race to get out of the car as fast as humanly possible.

As I understand stand it, the A.C. garage is for Beauvoir faculty and staff during the school day. The most recent handbook I have instructs parents to park in the Cathedral garage and walk their children to Beauvoir.

“I wonder if the other two schools in the Big 3 are this difficult with respect to parking and traffic??”

This is why Beauvoir parents make the rest of us laugh. Well statements like that and not being able to figure out the parking.

Also an entrance on Woodley at 36th.

the NCS AC parking isn't for parents. The cathedral garage is less then a block away and you walk on sidewalks the whole time and its fine. Or walk on the Woodley sidewalks. or FFS park on 35th st or Woodley rd or Lowell... they can't tow you.
