Wow. I have never needed to worship Jesus or any other false deity in order to have morals or be a good person. 9/11 didn't happen because God isn't 'allowed' in schools or other public settings and people who think like that are ignorant af.

These are the same idiots who want to blame school shootings on taking god out of schools

I don't send my children to school for bible study anymore than you do but people have gotten wacky about keeping God out of school to the point where they are no longer saying The Pledge of Allegiance at school because it contains the word God.

I can't make other people go to church or believe in God. Heck, I rarely go to church these days myself. But I find it bizarre how vehemently some people oppose any mention of God in our schools or any other public place. If somebody dares sing "God Bless America" some people look like they've been scalded by holy water. The outright contempt....

Sorry, it's weird and unsettling. And, yes, I do think that bad things happen when people start forgetting the lessons of the bible -whether or not you take them literally or figuratively.

My kids attend a religious private school. They pray every day. They say the pledge. They also practice what to do if a shooter comes in to the building. Because every sane person knows that God isn’t going to stop that psycho with an automatic weapon looking to kill innocent kids and adults.

Disgusting that people twist religion like that.

I don't think that she is saying that God is going to stop shooters from killing people. I think what she's saying is that if these shooters had been raised to know God maybe they would never have gone into their HS to shoot it up.

Guns have been around for a long time. But these school shootings are fairly recent. What about our society has gone so terribly wrong?

Learn the sad history of mass shootings. The first “school” shooter was Charles Whitman at the University of Texas in 1966.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2018/national/mass-shootings-in-america/?utm_term=.8acfb52861f5

The numbers of people killed goes up if you add in domestic disputes and gang violence.

Can't read The Post but I'm aware that school shooting happened well before now. But what we are seeing now is just unreal. When I was a kid in school we never worried about a school shooting. It just wasn't even on my radar. Now? The kids are doing school shooter drills. What has changed?

What has changed is even more guns and easier access to them.

Please. We have a secular home, and our child is one of the kindest, most compassionate human beings I have ever known. We regularly package food at the Food Bank, volunteer at other institutions, and donate to several charities. Even though there is no god in our lives.

Do you vehemently oppose hearing the word "god" in public? Do you have contempt for people who go to church and are religious? Do you actively dissuade people from admitting that they believe in God? Do you make fun of them for their religious beliefs? If so, that sucks of you.

Nope, none of those things. In fact, I have religiously friends and respect their beliefs.

The point in the FB post stems from Romans 1 in the Bible where Paul is telling the Romans that the wrath of God is being revealed because humans are choosing not to glorify God. Many conservative Christians today take this to mean that if we take God out of schools, society, etc and God will slowly back away and say "fine, do it your way" and without his protection, all kinds of terrible things will happen. The assumption in Christianity is that we're all sinful and only do anything good because of God's spirit working in us. When we turn away from God, he will "give us over" to our depraved, sinful ways and there's no hope for us unless we turn back to him.

Romans 1:18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

I wanted to know and see what the babies looked like now and go onto Courtney Waldrop's FB and come upon a post from 9/11/17 in which she reposted a message from someone else and now I'm like ughhhhh. I know, I know, nothing new here and should have expected it with them being born and raised in Alabama Bible Country but still pretty dissapointing after watching the episode =/

This is a bigoted comment. How about if someone referred to an area as being very “DC baby-daddy gangsta”?

Apparently the stereotype is true though and stereotypes DO come from a semblance of truth, so no need to be offended now.

YES. The person should read what that ignorant bible-thumper posted. Insinuating that Americans died on 9/11 as a form of biblical retribution is pretty low. She’s disgusting.

She says ‘God’ blessed her? I wonder what God thinks of IVF.

She didn’t do IVF (no responsible doctor would transfer that many embryos). She used fertility drugs to make herself ovulate many times. So irresponsible.

When Americans were more religious, slavery was acceptable, Native Americans endured the trail of tears, etc. You really believe religion makes people less violent?

Exactly. When society allowed God in schools there was also lots of corporal punishment and shaming.

There is no evidence that schools aren't saying the pledge anymore. That rumor only exists in alt-right faux news land.

I have stopped saying God when I say the pledge. That is MY choice. Actually, I am getting to a point that I may not say the pledge anymore because the words are such bullshit. This stand for the pledge and you must stand at attention for the anthem stuff is UN-American, as far as I am concerned.

Religion does NOT belong in schools. I have no problem with people who are religious. And if they choose to say a prayer to themselves in school or whatever privately, that is fine. But teaching it and proselytizing is NOT OK in a public school classroom.

Too often, Religion is used as an excuse for bigotry and hatred. You can believe whatever you wish, but when it starts becoming what you want taught to students of all faiths and worse, what you want legislated, that is where I draw a line in the sand.

Great post, PP. You are spot on. I also thought that the blog article had a lot of merit.

Agreed. This country was founded on a separation of Church and State. Let’s keep it that way.

She didn’t do IVF so clearly you have 0 clue. She used clomid (fertility drug) and conceived them.

The point still stands. Its unnatural. So how does she get off proselytizing to others when she isn't following the covenants herself?
