Three sport High School Athletes any more?!

sounds like you are trying to pad a college resume and trying to do tithe easiest way. Colleges see right through it especially when there are no honers attached to it.

For example, 4 year starter, captain, placing in state meets ets.

Track and Xc are famous for having many athletes that are there for the padding of the resume.

If they are running and win and are captain then great but 80% of XC runners at our school never have a time that gets their team points

I’m sure it depends on how competitive the school teams are and how great of an all around athlete the kid is. I think it is probably less common than when we were kids.

That is NOT considered 3 sports HS athlete. My definition of 3 sports athlete is: 1- you HAVE to be a starter on the team; 2- three completely different sports like Football in the Fall, basketball/hockey in the winter and baseball in spring; 3- the sport where there are cut to be made. In other words, the smaller the team, the better

This is NO ONE ELSE's definition of a 3 sport athlete. (I also wouldn't call winter track and spring track different sports, but the idea that you have to be a starter on a sport with cuts is simply NOT the definition of a 3 sport athlete.

My son did three sports - football, basketball and baseball. He was really gifted and loved it and while he still did well academically he had no life except sports and studying. His social and interpersonal skills suffered but eventually developed once he went to college and only played one sport. He's now 25 and admits that he should have only played one or two because he missed out on a lot of fun things. Thank God he studied as it got him into an Ivy.

Doing basketball all year can't be as healthy as mixing it up with 1 or 2 other sports. If your athlete is good.enough, I guess the coach can't really cut your child from basketball, but maybe just makes daily life more difficult when the team is in season and your child is behind. Any other HS sports besides basketball like this?

Any sport can become like this if it can be played both indoor and outdoor, which is almost everything except golf, baseball, and football.
