I made the comment you posted and am myself an apple! I wear a lot of dresses, that are either sheaths with a nipped waist, or fit and flare, or with strategic color blocking, or even a peplum. I wear slim leg trousers with tops like this: https://www.loft.com/dotted-ruffle-henley-shell/486058?skuId=26070520&defaultColor=2222&catid=catl000011 If we were friends I would take you shopping!

Op here. I feel like uniqlo is too much of throwaway fashion. I’m really looking for a few very very basics that will last and hold up to washing and life. I really want to be able to pick an outfit out of my closet with my eyes closed! Going to the mall to try on jill this weekend—- I think those wearever tops are what I’m looking for— with a more modern (ie not elastic waist) pant. We will see. |
Thanks, where do you find pants for a very short person, large waist, no hips/butt, skinny legs? |
This type of top doesn’t make you look pregnant? |
Old navy pixie pants are good and I have luck with some Ann taylor modern fit and they come in petities |
| OP, it is hard for me to imagine the cut on many of those outfits being flattering for most people (except the rail thin models in the links). I'm 43, 5'5" and 125 lbs and I think I would look frumpy and bad in those clothes - it isn't a matter of being too old, you can do better than those clothes. |
I was starting to wonder if I was the only one who didn't like the jacket!

ok, so I wear J.Jill. I am a preschool teacher and honestly I spend hall of my day sitting on the carpet, on the playground, and helping kids open juice boxes ect.
What I appreciate about J.Jill is that is easy to move, full (over) coverage so I can jump, run, and roll with my students. I am not sure how it would fly if I worked in a 'real' office though. That being said, it is all about how it looks on you. But then again, maybe as other pps have said- maybe I am a SSOS and have just given up on life. |

I really like a few well chosen pieces from jjill, but styled very differently than what they show in catalogs or website. I especially like their kimono cut tops and sweaters, combined with great pants or the right skirt and shoes from....somewhere else.
There are few clothing retailers that I would write off 100%; you just have to find which pieces look good on you and figure out what to combine them with. |

Yes, imo you are too young for JJill.I just turned 50 and think the Wherever styles from them will make me look 20 years older.I have a similar body type to the other commenter who was 42 and 145 lbs.with a slim waist and more pear shaped body, so don't need all these tunics but sometimes they are nice.
I still might try some sweaters, but I hate hand washing, and as a working mom you probably don't have time for all that What about JCrew? Or White House Black Market? I agree with The Limited suggestion as well, when I was in my 30s it worked well for office wear. |
I am an inch taller at the same weight and i am thin. I have a muscles build though. |
| I like a lot of their stuff. I cannot stand being uncomfortable at work all day. I think Limited, Uniqlo, White House, some of the other suggestions don’t meet yourcriteria of being able to throw in the wash without it shrinking or being ruined. |

Try the Ann Taylor camp shirt. It washes well, doesn’t button all the way down, and is a little longer so it covers the waist. They change up the colors often, and annoyingly they don’t put all colors and patterns in the same listing on the website.

That would be considered low cut in my office. |
| OP yes it’s too old for you unless you are heavy. Even then. I do the shopping for my family and self (various ages and sizes) and found that even if it looks ok there are subtle or not subtle differences that end up not being stylish. Stick with your age group stores and it’s just much easier. JJill I think boomers and their pregnant DDs. |
