Do you have a cleaning person? How big is your place and how much do you pay?

No, not really. You are a very small account for the cleaning person. There is a cost for the cleaner to clean your house - transportation, childcare, payment to helpers, additional work of getting their cleaning supplies in order. I am surprised that the person actually took this job because it is not cost effective and not frequent enough. I suspect that there is another house she/he is cleaning nearby that is much larger and she is earning a larger paycheck for that.

Do they do other people in your building / neighborhood? There is a certain minimum cost to account for transportation and cleaning even the most basic, tidy place.

I would feel guilty about paying so little.

I don’t think you are being ripped off. Many cleaners won’t even consider a job that is less than $100.

I dont think it seems unreasonable in general, but reading that people are paying 150 for over 5000 sq/ft homes makes it seem that way. I'm flabbergasted by some of these responses. I often travel for work so sometimes my cleaning woman comes and no one has been in it since her 2 weeks ago. Still 100 dollars.

Yes. She has several apartments on the block.

She has several apartments on the block. I was referred to by a friend. The bulk of her clients seem to not use her with any set regularity, more of a one off when needed thing. As I said above, this doesn't seem so unreasonable to me on its face but the PPs blew my mind with some of the 150 dollar, 5500 sq ft, 100 dollar 3500 3 bathroom places.

$140 every other week for 1480 sq foot small home - 3bd 3 baths. She washes and folds sheets, towels and bath rugs and will do laundry (but we try hard not to leave more than one load of clothes). She’s the best and worth every penny. I was considering raising to $150 next year. She has been with us for 8 years (we started at $125, she has never asked for raise - we just increased over time).
