How would you design address labels/stamps with two last names?

Smith | Jones

Ooh, I like this. I'm one who said we do

The Smith Jones Family

but I like the simplicity of this better - thanks for the idea!

Just do the address with no name. We all have the same name here but that’s what I always do.

Just give your house a name and use that:

The Grange
1234 main street
Anytown, USA 12345

If it were simple there wouldn't be a thread.

Thanks. We have married friends where they gave some of their kids her last name and some of their kids his last name. At Christmas I send the card as:

The Smith | Jones Family

I came up with this solution for them originally, and the started using for myself too when I got married, but use the simpler just last names version.

I have several sets of friends who use this construction.

You are the Smith-Jones family...as evidenced by the fact that Smith and Jones bred and named their progeny Smith-Jones.

Your labels should say this:

Smith-Jones
Street Address
City, State Zip

Or

The Smith-Jones Family
Street Address
City, State Zip

We are in the same boat, except I hyphenated my name as well (DH did not).

Way too much thought. Bills, etc are not from the kids or a family. I would put my name if I were the one sending it and I assume my husband would put his if it were him sending it. It just needs the right address so it can be RTS if the mailing didn’t work for some reason.

They are not the Smith-Jones family unless they want to be the Smith-Jones family.

Yesterday, i paid my landscaper bill, my pest control bill, we also recently hired an architect for a project so i paid the balance on that, i paid my quarterly taxes. We're in florida, so we have a lot of household services because stuff is cheap down here, and the companies are small so just like a check by mail. I was just marveling yesterday that i'd gone through 30 checks in my checkbook since August 8.

Most of my checks go in the collection basket at church. They clearly say "Larla Smith / Larlo Jones" at the top but the church sent our tax receipt to Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

at least they weren't sexist about it and saying Mr and Mrs Jones or worse Mr and Mrs Larlo Jones

Smith/Jones family would be so annoying to me that I'd rather just not send or receive mail with that label

why?

Smith/Jones
1234 Timid Deer Lane

If they didn't want to be the Smith-Jones family, then why on earth did they procreate and name their kids Smith-Jones?

The world believes they are the Smith-Jones family. And by the world, I mean the school, neighborhood and school friends, the doctors office, their coaches, etc.

I mean, what do they think their family name is if it isn't Smith-Jones, the surname they gave their kids?

Why is a forward slash different or better than a hyphen?

What statement do you feel you are making with a forward slash?

Why not use an asterisk?

Because they wanted to have children, and because they wanted to give the children the last name Smith-Jones.

I don't understand the insistence by some posters on DCUM that a family must have a family name.
