Maybe go informal and feel it out and then go formal once you feel more comfortable?

I'll do that - thanks

Hope it goes well! I will say a prayer for you to find a church you are comfortable with. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Become Jewish! We don't much care if you believe in God. It's great if you do, and fine if you don't.

How’d it go Op?

Was a super tiny group for the informal service but it was nice

They gave me some info about the church as a first time attendee

I'll be back next week for the larger regular service

I also got a bit emotional about being back in a church service for the first time in so long

I am glad you are going back! Good for you, op! I am emotional in church all the time. I am glad for you and I hope you feel at home and enjoy the worship at the formal service.

OP here. Thought I would update my thread

I feel a little silly about having written that paragraph about political/social issues. In fact, the church I chose is so progressive that I'll probably end up learning to have more love and kindness than I did when I wrote this post

I realize that the most important reason for going back wasn't even written in my original post: I think going to church regularly will help keep me morally grounded and help me to not repeat some mistakes I've made in the past in my life

My spouse and I are on track to becoming members. They did a nice announcement about the birth of our child and the pastor is planning to come over to our house to visit us

I've never hosted a pastor before. What should I expect? I hope it isn't any high pressure thing like the stuff I remember from my youth groups

So church might teach you to embrace actual Christian values? Imagine that!

Haha yeah, was your response meant to be light hearted or mean spirited?
