Summer Swim Team for Club Swimmer - Question

It doesn’t matter after a few years how many 1st or 3rd place ribbons they get, but it’s good to be challenged and it’s always beneficial to compete against older ages
The question is - does she get an All Star designation if she’s 10 or swims as 11 yo? All stars might affect winter clubs hiring decisions and that’s the only issue I would look at

OP here. I don't think this summer league has any bearing on her winter club. She'd be 9 swimming with 12 year olds. I agree it's good to be challenged! Maybe it won't matter in a few years, but at 9 it matters to her that she wins medals. Many of the 12 year old girls are the size of grown women. I think it puts the little guys at a huge disadvantage. I thought it was a weird rule. Just wanted to get a consensus if this is happening in bigger cities - if it's the norm...

Where do you live? I suggest joining a regular swim league in your area.

I wouldn't swim her up. We're in NVSL and it's strictly by birth date. Just keep her in her age group.

She had her last summer team meet yesterday. They made her swim 11-12 or she was disqualified. They had all the swimmers dates of birth and age listed on the results board. They should have done DOB as of Dec. 31 of the year, instead it was as of the date of the meet. There were 6, 2005 athletes in her races. Some turning 13 in days. I told DD was her choice to leave or give it a shot and see what she can do. She decided to compete. I was so proud of her. She ended up top 8 every event. She medalled bronze for fly, came in 6th for free and 7th for breast. I’m glad this league is done and looking forward to her regular clubs season.

This is not how summer leagues typically work around here.
