Long term CYA will be fine. Again, they are a huge multi-sport organization that has the ability to ride out a rough patch.

Not with their current leadership they won't.

+1. We had a child with CYA travel last year and it was a great experience. Our coach was fantastic and she went way out of her way to teach and take care of her players. Since she's still there this year, i see no reason why kids on her team won't get the same level of training and care. I know there were some changes at the coaching level over the summer, but there are other coaches who worked with DC who were also stellar and are still there this year. Sometimes things happen in work environments and disagreements lead to good people leaving. That doesn't mean that everybody who stayed is bad.

If I didn't know any better, feels like CYA management has been active here

The CYA 2008 Girls Purple team disappeared off of the NCSL schedule overnight. That team had been in Division G. Hopefully, this is just a momentarily blip or those players have other opportunities within the club (playing up, for example).

Speaking of NCSL, why in the world is there a single U10 girls division with 36 teams?!?!?!

That is because they are in NPL. Don't know why Purple was ever placed in NCSL. Im sure CYA will put a team into NCSL but not their A team.

Question: does CYA just stick field players in goal?

Good call on the NPL. I see the CYA Purple teams there (2008/U11 and older). It does seem that the 2007s don't have any matches on the NPL fall schedule. Their first/next game is at the end of March 2019.

I also agree with the "no-real-need" sentiment for divisions prior to U11/U12. It just looks odd with all other ages groups (including U9/2010) have divisions, but the U10/2009 girls have a single division. There is also a 36-team U10/2009 division on the boys side, and there is still three other divisions in that age group. With the U11/2008 girls, there is a total of 35 teams spread across four divisions.

Remember VPL/NPL does not start until U11 so many of those clubs teams will have their U9-U10 teams in NCSL. Another contributing factor is that U9-U10 teams are 7v7 while 9v9 starts at U11. This means that teams at larger clubs tend to consolidate a bit and therefor the number of teams may be diminished but the number of players does not.

At what age?

At U9/U10, I haven't seen a lot of goalkeeping specialists. The general rule of thumb from on high is that you keep exposing players to different positions at that age. (Hope Solo was still playing forward in high school.)

At all age groups. From what I’ve seen they just stick field players in goal and 1. The team struggles 2. Often they don’t even want to be in goal 3. The Hope Solo story is cute but do they not even have/train their keepers?

We moved from BC and my son is an 06, which travel club should we pursue? I'm literally on the line geographically between these 2 clubs.

I found info via google that one owns (SYA) their own facility which looks awesome, but am more interested in the competitive and development levels.

Thanks

Hey OP - Which club did you pick? Good luck either way.
