Tell me about the University of Phoenix

I know for a fact several idiot public employees, cops, firefighters abuse this scam school to get credentials for HUGE pay bumps and big promotions. The newspaper or their bio will just say "masters degree in X" not where it was from.

Them too. But University of Phoenix actually bought the naming rights to the Cardinals stadium in AZ. So kind of sounds like a legit college stadium even though it isn't.

While I agree it is a sham school, I thought that when applying for a federal job that it doesn't hurt you to have an upper level degree from them?

My dh used to teach math classes as an adjunct for several schools in the area (George Mason, NOVA, etc.) and tried teaching at UoP. He regularly tells my 8yo daughter that she has stronger math skills than the students he taught at UoP.

I'm sure there are decent students there (and I think he was probably teaching Algebra I, which would attract the weaker students), but they seem to accept almost anyone, including people who would probably be better off looking for a career that doesn't require university.

This is the reason that a degree from UoP isn't respected in the market.

That said, I think PPs are correct that in organizations that simply want to check a box that a person has a graduate degree, UoP may be counted the same as any other school.
